Just got finished hanging a few ceiling fans in the new stall. Which leads me to my vent:

I buy 3 ceiling fans, each one the same model, make, and design. While reviewing the box to check for bulb requirements (Still in the home improvement store) I see that they take candelabra light bulbs so I buy enough to do all of them.

The first two go smoothly, just the minor obstacles I have come to encounter with home improvement projects. After putting up the final one I get three bulbs out to screw into the sockets and "WHAM". . . they're standard sockets!

Fortunately I had purchased a few standard bulbs for the house while I was there as well, and so just had to go downstairs and get them. (I told yah I had run into this kind of thing before).

Why can't they make them all the same? Do they have some short and squatly person running around to impose some gremlin work in these places? Sheesh!

PH, If you run the fan much, you will find that bulbs do not last worth a hoot.  In the fan that uses standard light bulbs, you can upgrade to rough service bulbs from your local auto parts (NAPA) store.  The filaments in those have four supports instead of two like a standard bulb.  Rough service bulbs will resist the vibrations of the fan much better and last way longer.  They are available in normal wattages too.

That's good to know. I was going through light bulbs like crazy. Then I switched to the environmental bulbs about two years ago and haven't had to switch them. Actually, I moved about 4 months ago, so I don't know if they're still working, but that's what I have in my fan now.

Are those the CFL bulbs?  Those will take a beating too, and I did see some the other day that would look good in a fan.  The basic CFL's with the curly glass would not look all that great IMHO.

I like mine except for the slight delay you get when turning them on.  I don't mind it with the light next to my bed because it gives me just enough time to hide my face when the light goes on, but in other areas it is a bit annoying.
Take time to smell the roses.

I've got one in a porch light.  When it's down around zero, it is slow to come on and get bright.  Hmm, that sounds like me

I did purchase rough service bulbs in standard base. I almost use them exclusively since they seem to indeed last a lot longer. Keeps me off ladders!

I know what you mean with those candelabra bulbs. . . We had them in the old house on the bath vanity mirror. I had to keep a half dozen on hand at all times. . .

I guess I should have mentioned my lights have the opague glass shades. So it's not so bad.

The fans I put up all have the frosted glass, so unless you look right at the end you can't see what kind of bulb we're using.

Now for my next random vent:
