OMG.... what have I started here. My issue is this.... people have a right to smoke if they want to, just as people who don't smoke, have a right not to breathe it. IMO, the government is taking too many rights away from people. This is the U.S., but it's getting to be more like communist China. They keep stripping the rights of the citizens. I'm still waiting on that breathable air tax.  Mark my word it's coming.

What I'm saying is why blame smokers for all the ills when there are things just as bad or worse for you that no one gripes about.  Cigarette smoking just seems to be the thing to gripe about now because some politician decided it would be a great way to raise tax's.  It smelled just as bad 20 or 30yrs ago and no one complained.

Bullcrap! You know better than that! Of course 20 or 30 years ago, many complained. It's just that now the chorus is more numerous and louder!

Do you deny that smoking is bad for you? One of the worst things you can do to your body legally?

I'm not denying smoking is bad for a person, in fact I wish I had never started.  It just irritates me that they are getting so ridiculous with these no smoking laws.  I even had an allergy specialist tell me that there a lot of people who don't like to smell cigarette smoke but there are very few people who have an actual allergy to it.  I know this doesn't mean I will but my grandfather was a heavy smoker and lived in to his 90's as well as some other relatives on both sides of the family so they must have been doing something right.

There's always something that's going to kill us. Everything causes cancer blah, blah blah. You know what I think makes people sick? It's people who are soooo worried about dying, that they can't relax, and enjoy life. People sit around ,and worry themselves sick. Everytime they come out with a health report, on something causing death, and disease they look like total idiots, because a month later ,they claim the total opposite. They said eggs are high in cholesterol for years, now they say eggs aren't as bad for a person as we originally reported.  Well, which is it? These people who are in "'the know" really don't know their ass from a hole in the ground. People worry waaaay tooo much IMO!!! LIVE AND LET LIVE.

Tobacco does cause cancer. If I'm wise enough to not choose to smoke then why should I be at risk because of someone else's choice?

You know what I think makes people sick? It's people who are soooo worried about dying, that they can't relax, and enjoy life. People sit around ,and worry themselves sick.

This describes an illness called hypochondria, however that effects a very small segment of society. There are things that have been proven to be harmful to your body which do make people sick and are the leading cause of emphysema, heart attacks, high blood pressure and cancer. That's not worrying about getting sick and I think the thousands of people in the country alone who are suffering or dying because of a poor decision or worse the poor decision of someone else, would take offense to having the cause of their condition reduced to worrying.

As for me, I know death is inevitable, it's part of the circle of life. However, I am bothered when the careless actions of someone else effects my health. What's even more worrisome is that they don't seem to understand the impact it has. Although I do hate the smell, the smell isn't harmful. It's what's inside the smoke.

Then there are reports that are consistent. The effects of tobacco being one of them. That DOES not change.

If some people wanna smoke themselves to death, be my guest, but leave me, my children and our lungs out of it.

I've gotten free hockey tickets three times this year and the last two games were sucky!     I shouldn't bitch about free tickets but damn!  It takes me about an hour to get there with traffic, the least they can do is score!

I'm not a smoker, never have been. I'm not in denial. I know smoking causes cancer, and I never stated otherwise. My problem is this.... why should people who object to smokers, have more rights than smokers? It's a double standard.  Why should one person have more rights than the other? I think most smokers are aware of the repercussions. I just think it should be equal rights, and freedoms for everybody. It's not right to show bias in these situations. Unfortunately, I see smoking being banned in the U.S., within the next 10 years. They've taxed smokers to death, and it didn't work, people are still buying cigarettes, so they didn't win that round, and now it's banned in public places. Next, it will be against the law to smoke in your own home. Finally, it will be illegal to buy, or sell cigarettes. IMO, the smokers have lost their rights. This is something to mull over..... when they conquer their cigarette quest... what rights will be next? Think it over, because the government always has to be in control. What if something you do, or like, is next on the chopping block?

No, Dex, you didn't say that cigarettes don't cause cancer, but you made light of the discussion as if the people who are concerned w/the dangers of smoking are being silly.

Again, I ask, what gives you or anyone the idea that spreading a cancer causing substance to someone who doesn't smoke (let alone what it's doing to the smoker's lungs) is a right?

I've already said, I avoid the smoking areas. I walk away from people who are smoking in public. I give them their space and I expect them to respect mine.
