Kimmi I'm speaking more for the person at the window than the people in the restaurant. However I have walked into a public bathroom where some inconsiderate person thought it was acceptable to smoke, because they were too lazy to take their behinds outside.

me it's beyond me why someone would think that doing something so harmful to their body and not only their bodies, but the bodies of everyone around them is a right. I don't know about perfume, I don't often wear it, but I have someone very close to me who is affected by asthma and she's had more trouble w/cigarette smoke than perfume.

Mr 442 I totally agree!

I have a better idea.  Why not start trying to get the tobacco companies to quit putting all kinds of additives in the tobacco?  I've started rolling smokes since they've become so expensive and am using additive free tobacco and, ya know, low and behold the smell isn't near as offensive and it don't seem to leave the residue that regular cigarettes do.  Even my daughter and son-in-law who are non smokers said the smell is a lot less offensive.
Also if you'll think about it there are a lot more things putting pollution in the air than cigarettes like carpeting, paneling, and common household cleaners that can do you more harm than second hand smoke but you can't smell them or they smell good so you don't realize they are harming you.

If I were of the mind to get tobacco companies to do anything, it would be to take responsibility for the mess they've created or shut down completely. Of all the completely useless and harmful products out there, tobacco is one of the worst. It's not just the smell, me, did you read what I posted previously about secondhand smoke?  My point is this. If you (or anyone) fails to care about the harmful effects of tobacco. I don't care. Knock your socks of. Puff until your lips fall off. It's not my concern. I have friends who are smokers and when they visit me, they go outside to smoke. When I visit them, they give me the same courtesy. We haven't talked about it. They don't know that I abhor smoking. They do it to prevent exposing other people to their habit. I respect that. If I'm walking down the street, I keep a mental note of smoking areas so I can avoid them. I'm not going to walk into a smoking area and complain because people are smoking. If I see people walking down the street smoking, I do my best to avoid them. Again, I respect their space. However, not all smokers respect mine. I've been waiting on the trolley and someone sit right down and light up. Thanks. Or I've been eating dinner w/someone and had them finish first and pull out a smoke. Again...'ppreciate it. I do hate the smell, but I hate the effects more.

As for household chemicals. I make that choice, but I don't spray them on anyone or force anyone to inhale or drink them.

It still amazes me that people continue to smoke and do other harmful things, even when their bodies openly reject the offending substance.  Smoking, dinking alcohol, doing drugs, etc.  If your body responds in an openly hostile way, you should not be doing it.

The first time I tried smoking, I hacked and coughed because my body did not appreciate it.  Drinking was the similar.  Booze was not the nicest thing to go down my throat.  And to prove it's point, it made me drunk, then gave me a hangover.  Fresh air and water never did that to me.  Why?  Because it is not harmful like those other things are.  If folks would just listen to their bodies, they would not give some of this stuff a second chance.  You don't stick your hand back into a fire due to the pain, so why do folks keep doing this stuff until they have become desensitised to it?

Yes, I am a former smoker, and have had a drink or two, but now don't smoke and I rarely have a beer.

Just out of curiosity, and I've ran across this before is why I'm asking.  How many of you guys that are griping about cigarette smoke wouldn't hesitate to light up a joint?  You don't have to answer that here just think about it.  I know quite a few pot smokers who think cigarette smoking is the worst habit a person could have.

Good question, but it is a matter of quantity. I quit smoking last January 22nd, but I will still take the occasional (maybe once or twice a month) toke.

When I smoked cigarettes, it was a pack a day. I don't think I could function as a human being if I smoked 20 joints a day.

I doubt that too but did you know one joint is the same as 5 cigarettes?  they also harm your body in the same way and also have some other bad effects on your health?

One joint will last me a month....I'll take my chances. And don't pull that Reefer Madness stuff on me, please.

See you defend your right to smoke too.  And don't pull that "well I don't go out in public with mine" either 'cause you know darn well you would if it were legal.

As long as tobacco is legal I will defend your right to smoke. But not in my house!

And no....I wouldn't smoke in public even if it were legal. My wife and I smoke for one reason only....and that requires privacy!

Sorry me, you'll have to find another way to minimize my disgust. Tis not my thing.

What I'm saying is why blame smokers for all the ills when there are things just as bad or worse for you that no one gripes about.  Cigarette smoking just seems to be the thing to gripe about now because some politician decided it would be a great way to raise tax's.  It smelled just as bad 20 or 30yrs ago and no one complained.

I think I'd be more worried about the effects of the car exhaust than cigarette smoke.
BINGO!!!  The car exhaust is waaaaay worse than the cigarette smoke, especially diesel. We've had people actually come to our drive thru window smoking pot before.  :spooked: Damn, that shit stinks.  We've had people pull up to the window with a beer bottle between their legs. That shit pisses me to no end.

The whole point is when is it all going to stop.  They are already trying to control what we eat too as well as how we feed our kids and this is getting to the point of ridiculous.  I'm highly allergic to perfume and there are others who could end up in the hospital from getting too close to someone with it on.  Are they going to tell people they can't wear perfume outside their own houses or in cars with kids in them next?  And, yes, it is a health hazard.  Have you ever talked to someone with asthma?
Most of the doctor offices in the area here, have banned their patients from wearing perfume, while at the office. They have signs up everywhere.  You can't do anything in Illinois, without pissing in somebody's Cheerios.

Ya know, I bet if I hung my ass out a drive up window and farted in the general direction of a smoker in a car, they would raise holy hell with me.

Second had smoke travels far and effects many.  I hate to get stuck behind a smoker in a drive up in my car or truck, because the smoke gets sucked into MY vehicle if the wind is wrong.  I have the same problem at stop lights too.  I'd rather be behind a cattle truck.
LOL!!! One of my coworkers cocked his ass, and farted at a little old lady at the counter one day.  :spooked:
