If a gnat passes gas, the price of gas goes up.

That's cuz gnats don't pass very much gas.

I wonder, since oil prices have gone down because the worlds 3rd largest consumer of it has been virtually brought to a standstill, if they'll drop the prices at the pumps?

Man. . . People who teach foreign individuals the english language REALLY need to pay attention to their own use of the language!

It is SOOOO frustrating to try to listen to someone with a very thick accent (NOT their fault) speaking the english language, that also picked up the annoying habit of saying, "you know" endlessly between words and mid sentence even!

The United States of America has become the "grand protector of all" it would seem. While Canada and Mexico, our nearest neighbors, bask in the protection of our state of the art naval vessels and military might, they themselves maintain but a small flotilla of naval vessels (MARCOM) that are necessary to put up a marginal defense of their own costal waters. Their military units are typically used to address domestic needs more often than international crises; and they only maintain the headcounts necessary to meet NATO requirements.

Meanwhile, the people of this country pay through the nose to maintain our naval and military might, which the world takes for granted and rides the coat tails of each and every day. When a natural disaster occurs the world counts on US forces and funding to dig them out. When international disturbances involving crimes against humanity transpire, the world looks to the US to put on its cape and fly to the rescue.

Global natural and man made disasters drive a global expectation of the people of this country to step up to the plate and do what needs doing. Ever ask yourself just why that is?

Is it because the United States of America is comprised of every race, every nationality, and every belief that is known to the planet? Is it because of this rich heritage that is welcoming of all that others would shun, persecute, and abuse, that we endeavor to protect all?

If you answered yes to either one of those questions, then you must ask yourself another; Why is it then that we are so hell bent upon persecuting, abusing, and shunning anyone who is a citizen of this country, or dares to desire to be one? Who, exactly, do we think we a fooling other than ourselves?

Perhaps in our aspirations to become that which we desired to be, we have lost sight of those fundamental and foundational values that drove our ancestors to dare to dream of a new country; and in so doing we have forgotten to become truly Americans, to establish a meaning and identity that sets us apart from the world. And I am not talking about religion either. I am talking about what it means to BE an American, to live as an American, and to value each other as Americans in everything we do.

This country has spent so long defending the rights and well being of the planet and its various nationalities, races, and rights, that we as a collective nation have become lost in that maze of pride, race, and rights; and in the process lost ourselves. We are no longer a nation of Americans but rather, citizens of the world that carry global responsibilities that many of our ancestors fought very hard to escape. (As an example of what I am trying to say here, consider the fact that we maintain such a strong military and the financial burden that places squarely upon the shoulders of each and every American in this country. In reality isn't this situation nothing more than a global tax that we HAVE to pay because unless we do other countries will suffer for it?)

The United States of America is dead! Long live the United States of America!

who pissed in your wheaties...

The world. . . and they're pissing all over yours too, but your "taste buds" are too jaded to even notice!

IMHO if the world expects assistance for every damned disaster and murderous dictator that comes down the pike, then it ought to get off the tit of Lady Liberty and do something about it. Like what?

Well, lets take Nato/UN for example. Why in the hell doesn't this multi-national force ever do anything to help countries that are victims of natural disasters, and why do they only become engaged in international conflicts AFTER the grunt work has already taken place. (BOTH situations in this world that are historically shouldered by the United States - physically and financially).

Why hasn't the world established a World Disaster Fund to which every single nation on the planet contributes, and from which they can draw upon during times of natural disasters?  I'll tell yah why, because Lady Liberty opens up her purse strings to anyone in the world EXCEPT her own citizens.

The world is addicted to Lady Liberty, and her citizens are too blind to see it; until something like what happened to Japan eventually happens to this country that is. And then we'll see who steps up to her aid once that happens. . . I doubt there will be many, and I sincerely doubt that it will be sufficient or equal to that which Lady Liberty extends to the world on a regular basis each and every single year on all fronts.

WHEN will she look to her own, see their struggles and suffering, and nurture their needs? Will she ever? Not in my lifetime, of that I am all but sure.

IMO the world organizations will never do what they were meant to do because they (generally speaking) won't do anything they aren't forced to do. The WHO is the only world organization that has been succrssful, imo. The US is a generous nation, in part, imo, because we are so diverse, who doesen't want to help the ancesteral homeland? Ithink it is too late for us to pick up all our toys and go home, but the idea has its merits.

Yes Sir, I am sick and tire of our country of being Uncle Sap.  A sap for any way they, the other countries get us to pay their bills and protection.

If you need $20 million to a Billion dollars just cry  and ask Uncle Sap and he will give it to you.  Our own people who loose everything in a fire, tornado, a oil spill and good Uncle Sap will loan you the money with interest.   Go figure on that.

Now you won't believe this coming from the Old Troll, but I glad to have young Henry Hawk back and a newbe Nighthawk.

It was getting a little sleepy around the Zone without them.  The Troll and Sandy Eggo had a little round.  Even tho I don't agree with good old Sandy all of the time.  She does have some intelligent things to say.

But Henry and Night it is fun to see the other side of intelligent.  :rotfl: :grin2:
