Former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney will suspend his bid for the Republican presidential nomination, GOP sources tell CNN....

Usually means to back up and take a good look to assess the possibilities of winning.

(Vs. spending lots more benjamins just to see them get flushed like the rest of the money he's already contributed to our economy in the form of workers' wages.)

Doesn't necessarily mean a total withdrawal.
