This was Heloise's Hint for today & I thought it was a neat one:

Cleaning Out Pumpkins

Hate getting pumpkins ready for carving? Make it easy by using an ice cream scoop to remove the inside pulp and seeds faster. Carve and then sprinkle cinnamon or nutmeg inside. When you light the candle inside, and it burns, the smell will be wonderful.

That's awesome! I'll remember that one! Thanks!

I'll have to wait until next year to carve pumpkins...can't do that in FL unless you throw it away after a day or two. (Or keep them inside, I guess)

We're pumpkined up, up here in PA.

Hopefully you've taken the grandchildren to visit Finney's??

Yes, but I got the impression that the family is slowly easing out of the production it once was. Grandpa's Gift Barn didn't have nearly the merchandise in prior year (no basement at all), the decorations could have used a coat of paint, there were no wagon loads of squash, etc. A bit disappointing for us adults, but the  grandchild absolutely loved it. (The other 4 are at the stage where they are trying to be more "grown up" than Finney's. It'll be some years before they become "kids" again. Teenagers )

That's sad to hear...I always enjoyed Finney's, at every age. I just talked with a friend today that said she takes her kids to Tobin's farm -- just around the corner from there. She said the prices are more palatable as well.

Today Hint from Heloise:

Is It Safe to Can Foods in the Microwave?
No, because you cannot kill dangerous organisms. Use the traditional method of pressure cooker or hot-water bath for canning.

Today's Hint from Heloise:

Substitute for Sour Cream

If you've run out of sour cream or cream cheese, you can put cottage cheese in a blender and process until it's smooth to use in dips or spreads. You also can thin it with a bit of yogurt.

Fatcats Mom

That does not sound good!

Sunny

I was thinking the same thing!

Chances of having cottage cheese are much more slim than having cream cheese or sour cream around my house.

Today's Hint by Heloise:

Making Bread Crumbs

Need to make bread crumbs? Use frozen bread because you can grate the frozen bread
into crumbly pieces more easily than using fresh bread.

(who needs to make 'em when Progresso does such a good job? )
