Thanks Henry.   Sometimes I wonder if I have much to do with everything that she does. She's definitely independent and has a drive larger than mine. But I did tell her in 4th grade after she master dividing (knowing that she could now read, write, add, subtract multiply and divide) that the "world was her oyster". That there wasn't anything that she couldn't do, she just had to figure out what she wanted.

Sunday night we were talking and she told me that she seriously thought about becoming a Pharmacist. Now this is an excellent decision for her since she excels in science (biology, anatomy and chemistry). So, we are gonna take a few trips to Butler. I think they have an excellent school of Phamacy, And even if she doesn't choose this specific career, she may be in a lab working for Lilly doing research or something. Who knows - but the world is her oyster!

Lil BEG aced drivers ed which ended last Friday. She gets her license 4/21/08.

So her dad & I bought her first car yesterday!!! It's a '99 Olds Alero. It's white and has 4 doors, with a sun roof and power locks & windows and a CD player - all requirements of the 16 year old. LOL  It has a couple of dings on it, but it's the perfect beginner car and was in our budget range and will serve her purpose wonderfully.

Wow! That sounds really nice and you're right...You don't want the starter car to be new.

Do they get an actual license there at 16? Here in California, even after they get their license they're not allowed to have a passenger in the car unless it's a licensed adult driver and they have a curfew. I think it's 11 p.m. to 5 a.m or something like that. That lasts until they're 18. Those rules alone keep a lot of our 16 year olds from even bothering.

Yep they are licensed here at 16. The can drive alone but no passengers other than adults for the first 6 months. Curfew is dictated by the state. It's states that a child 15, 16, or 17 years of age should be home: by 11:00 P.M. on Sunday, Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday nights; and by 1:00 A.M. on Friday and Saturday nights.

I have to admit that I like the rule of "no passengers" for a time period. It gives them time to become accustomed to driving and paying attention to what's going on. I remember, all too well, what it was like to be 16 and have a car full of friends. I never had any mishaps, but I had a few friends that did.

but 99% of the kids do not follow that rule....the one about no passengers.

A couple of years ago...3 or 4 teenagers were killed in Frankton due to this.  The driver was 16 and not supposed to have passengers....if they had followed the rules....well you can figure it out.
