If he knows that, then he'll also know that I still think he sucks.

I went to the website and found it amusing when Kirk says to reach the unsaved, you have to bypass the intellect and make the gospel simple.  I also like it when he says people who believe in a loving God are guilty of idolatry because a loving God doesn't exist and therefore you have to create him/her.

I agree about the mystery of the concept.  My point is that there is extraordinary evidence that god, if he exists at all, has gone along his merry way and is no longer concerned with the whole "human" business.  So why the ongoing dependence on the concept?

And that's part of the mystery after all, isn't it? I don't know if I subscribe to a "conventional" view of God as taught by organized religion. So I don't have a canned answer. But I'm still working on it.

Allow me to recommend an interesting read.  While I may not ascribe to his conclusions, he identifies and addresses this subject.

this is almost a thread in and of itself...

the short answer:  it's not the dependance on the concept, so much as the sharing of the concept and exclusion of those not associated with it.  you hardly ever hear of anyone belonging to a church of "one".

Give that man a see-gar!  We see this in action, even beyond religion, every day.  Exclusion/superiority appears to be innate in mankind.  Some function of the primal brain or something bred into us over the millennia by the forces of civilization?

But what if we are wrong to expect anything of God? What if He simply created everything and then just sat back and watched?

And I still believe that there is a Creator of some kind, that most of us refer to as God.  I believe is a Celestial Being, and I'll stop there before I get accused of blasphemy. LOL

The concept of a 'creator' is a logical dead-end.

If one assumes everything is 'created', then there must be a 'creator', but then what 'created' the 'creator.'

GREENSBURG, Kan. -- Church leaders on Sunday told more than 3,000 residents, volunteers and disaster workers gathered in this tornado-ravaged community they should not fear the future because God was with them.

....

Tim Henning, pastor of Peace Lutheran Church in Greensburg, likened the city's plight to that of Job in the Bible, whom God tested by taking away everything he loved but who kept his faith through it all: "We are like him, we lost everything," he said.

Henning reminded residents that God was still with them.

Apparently, some still haven't figured out that I'm right in my opening statement.  As I stated previously, I'm left to draw the conclusion that in the best case, god simply sucks, or in the worst case he's just a prick who enjoys fucking with people.

Your post would suggest that you have some evidence to show otherwise?

the god who is appathetic, incapable, or simply enjoys the suffering of "his chosen".

I think a compelling case can be made that all of those qualities can be ascribed to god, as he's defined by the masses.  The daily headlines are replete with examples.

For the record, I subscribe to no god.  I'm just pointing out obvious questions that should be asked of any god which is supposedly omnipotent.

If he/she's omnipotent, why would ANYONE expect him/her to answer the questions?
Looks like I've come full circle.
