The Nancy  Dyer child neglect case made national news in January. She's the I ndiana mother, whose son was found,  wandering on the interstate. When the police  responded ,they found her dauther eating out of the garbage. She had a on diaper so full of feces it was dragging on the floor. Her children are now in the states custody. There is a pending bench trial. Has anybody heard of this case???

Was she asleep?  I think I've heard about it, but no followup on it.
Looks like I've come full circle.

I hadn't heard anything about that one.  That is so sad.

It seems that week there were two incidents of a child roaming on or near the interstate, not 100% positive.  I'm extremely sensitive to the child getting away part, on a personal level, but the child eating out of the garbage and unchanged, that's just plain ridiculous.   When my children were small, if I was home and asleep, the first place they went was into my bed, waking me up.  Heck it's still the first thing they do when they wake up.   Crap, my 17 year old woke me from a nap tonight, when she woke up from hers, "mama, are you going to fix any dinner?"   LOL, so up I got and fed my child who is clearly old enough to cook for herself.

She was asleep. When the police showed up at her door, they had to bang on it, to get her awake. Her first reply was" oh,he got out again?' He had gotten out a week before that, and was running around, in the partment complex parking lot. She was asleep the entire time.

You're a responsible MOM,and I commend you. This whole case has been a nightmare. Different sites have had pictures of her children Damon and Gabrielle. They are the cutest children I have ever seen.Nancy has a computer addiction, never taught the kids to speak, or how to feed themselves. She's been pregnant 11 times. She has 5 that are living, she's pregnant with 1 now, she had 3 abortions and 2 misscarriges. She doesent have custody of any of them. She should've stopped along time ago.IMO

The children are in good homes now? I certainly hope so.

Well the fact that I'm a responsible mom could be up for debate.  Seeing as how I am on probation due to a plea agreement on a charge of Neglect of Dependent.  I never finished my document that I was writing on this issue, but I got 18 months probation which should have been up in March of this year. But I got hit with a violation of probation when my youngest once again wandered out of the house without my knowledge and got two blocks away, crossing a busy street.   I was found out searching for her, but never matter, I'm still neglectful in the eyes of the law.  I have taken many steps to prevent this from ever happening again. And now that she is 5 she knows she can't wander.

Conversation with her last night when she came to spend the evening with me for my birthday:

Itty Bitty: Are you out here so you can watch me, Mama?
Me:  Yes I am.
Itty Bitty: Oh, so I won't run away?
Me: Yes, so you won't run away, or get taken or go out in the street and get hurt.
Itty Bitty: Okay.
Me: Do you want to run away?
Itty Bitty:  No, I want to stay here with you.

As far as anyone knows. Any place is better than with her IMO.Her family offered to take them, but she's bitter towards them for some reason. So she gave them to the state. Her trial was supposed to start today, but they postponed it for a month. That in itself is dissapointing, to some of the followers of this case, alot of people want to see her do some serious jail time. I dont look for that to happen tho. I think she'll get a slap on the hand, and have her kids back in a year if not less.Sadly if she gets them back,we could hear of something worse next time.

I really dont think you're in the same category as this lady. I dont think that at all. Your situation was a one time thing. Its been said that she just didn't give a damn. She has been pregnant 11 times and does not have custody of any of them. The father of her children is a child molester, who raped his sister at knife point when they were teenagers. I dont think they should ever get custody of those kids again.
