Soccer mom, it really is gorgeous. It was not at all what I expected the first time I went. I expected it to be, I dont know, some land of heathens with dragqueens walking the streets and all sorts of "shocking" things. But I was surpised. A bit disappointed at first maybe, but the few times Ive been there have been just amazing. The climate is wonderful...its almost year round in the 70s...Ive never witnessed the fog...but I guess that would be a downside.
I always stay right in the heart of things, with the windows open---waking to the sounds of the city and the trolley bells. I say I want to live there, but I probably wouldnt,  because Id be afraid that Id start taking all those things for granted.

I'm so totally jealous....I don't know exactly why that city appeals to me so much, but I can't even watch the beginning credits of Full House without wanting to chuck it all and kiss Beckley goodbye for northern CA. I'm sure I wouldn't even begin to be able to afford a dump in the city, but it's a heckuva fun thought. Just a trip down Lombard Street, a ride on a trolley, a glance at Alcatraz....I'm easy to please. The way you speak of it makes me want to go even more....it sounds lovely.

Oh you would love it!!! I sat in the park across the street from the Full House houses for a good hour...just enjoying the breeze. For sucha big city, it feels very small and homey...like you could find your "place" in it very easily.
Is Lombard the curvy street?? Its gorgeous....planted with flowers...Im so jealous of the people that live there. Alcatraz was fascinating. Fishermans Wharf is a bit touristy...but fun nonetheless. (Theres a homeless man who sits on the sidewalk disguised by tree limbs and jumps out and scares people) The last time I was there, I took a boat cruise in the bay, under the Golden Gate bridge...its really a great place...
But youre right about the expense...a friend who lives there paid half a million for a one bedroom apartment thats nice enough...but in Beckley it would rent for $450 a month!
You should go sometime...I booked a trip with a friend for this fall, airfare out of Charlotte, and four days in a hotel in the Union Square area for $400 a person. Check some of the travel sites for a package...you can get there fairly inexpensively.

Wow, that's not bad at all!! I have a cousin who attends UC Berkeley, and I thought about giving her a call and asking to come crash for a few days. Never mind the fact that I haven't spoken to her in years....LOL.
Lombard is indeed the curvy street...I would kill to live on it, what a hoot! Thanks for the warning about Tree Limb guy...I'd probably pee my pants if he jumped out at me!

I drove out to Berkley once...its a fantastic little place!

The last time, I rented a convertible and drove down the coast to Santa Cruz. The drive was probably the best part of the trip...oceanside the whole way...I felt like I was in a car commercial!
