Hey guys...I'm starting to get packed and I was wondering if anyone knows any where go get decent sized boxes for free.

I'm going to put an ad on Craigslist.com, but if anyone has any ideas, let me know.

Check with the smaller grocery stores in your area.  They are usualy glad to get rid of them.

Don't get boxes that are too large.  You do need to be able to carry the things after you load them up.

This may sound crazy...but look around for moving trucks being unpacked! LOL! Or the classifieds in your local paper.

We moved ourselves vs. being professionally moved & kicked ourselves in the butt for not saving the pro boxes. (Who knew?)...truth be told, the UHAUL boxes are quite nice & reasonably priced.

Otherwise, check out your liquor store...grocery store...and WalMart...most places break them down early in the morning, so you'll have to call the day before.

Good luck!

I used to work for a moving co. call them up and ask if the have any used boxes, they'll give them to you. I miss that job, packing and moving, you get to see really cool stuff, and then some jobs you didn't want to see!!!!

Need any tips just ask.

I used to have great luck at the super wal mart...go late at night when they are unboxing the grocery section.

Yep, that's always where I get mine. They used to be back by layaway, but Walmart doesn't do layaway anymore. I'd call and just ask to speak to the manager on duty, they'll be happy to tell you when another shipment is coming in and sometimes they'll hold the boxes for you. It saves them the trouble of breaking them down.

That's not bad advice either. Apartment complexes always has someone moving in. I chanced on someone moving in once. I was leaving the office after paying my initial deposit. I stopped and asked if they were planning to throw their boxes away and they were, so they just stacked them outside and I picked them up as they emptied them.

(I know, I'll ask anybody anything )

I moved into my apartment with beer case boxes because they were small enough that I could manage them. I still have them and will be using them again shortly.

We used banana boxes from the local grocery store when we moved....not too big and they have handles cut in the sides of them so they are easy to carry.

last time i got boxes from the grocery they didn't have a full bottom in any of them. They were some kind of produce box, but they wouldn't hold much....

Take a sacrificial box and cut the sides off -- then put the sides in the bottom of the other boxes.

I didn't think of that...
