Bastards put a new law into effect. I renewed my DL last year and it is good until 2022. But now I have to go back, pay another fee, and run the gauntlet yet again or else I won't be allowed to:

Board federally regulated commercial aircraft (effective 10/1/2020)
Access federal facilities that require identification to enter, such as military bases
Enter nuclear power plants

Can't wait to see how much documentation this will require. . .

PH, here is a list of what you need for a real ID. The rules don't change until 2020. Most of the documents should be pretty easy to gather, the official birth certificate might be a pain if you were born out of state.
Proof of identity (US official birth certificate, or passport),these can also be used for lawful status, proof of ssh number (ssh card, w2 form, pay stub or any official ssh document), and two pieces proving Indiana residency, computer generated bill, bank statement, pre-printed  pay stub, any official Medicare or Medicare document.

We keep a copy of the regs at the pantry, you would be surprised at how many people never look at the expiration date on their driver's license or ID.

Don't forget the marriage license and divorce decree for any prior marriage and license for current marriage for women. I for the life of me, do not understand this "make it hard for law abiding citizen" methodology being undertaken at the state and federal levels; except for the fact that each frigging step does absolutely nothing to increase safety or security, but it does serve to generate revenue. . . 😡😡😡

And I wonder just how much the BMV will overcharge it's customers in Indiana over this one?

And while I'm at it, if BMV workers cannot be trusted to correctly follow the protocols necessary to issue license plates, what in hells creation makes anyone think they can be trusted to follow the protocols for this ignorant "real ID" law?

I just cannot wait to spend hours of my time I will never get back watching those people wade through the documentation this is going to require. . . And all for a stupid stamp on a license I have already paid for and will now have to pay for again. . .

Wonder how long before they will require a "real ID" to be allowed to vote? 🙃🤑

I've had an Indiana real ID for years and the process of getting it was so painless that I don't even remember having done so...certainly a lot less involved than getting my concealed carry permit.

I wasn't aware of it, but just did a quick google......

The Real ID doesn't cost any more than a standard license renewal, and the process doesn't take long.

"Took me from start to finish five minutes," said Lt. Gov. Suzanne Crouch, who got her Real ID Friday.

If you don't get a Real ID, your ability to vote, drive a car or apply for federal benefits will not be affected.

Tell that to the women that have to retrieve divorce and marriage records from 30 years ago . . .

If I had to do that I'd be screwed. I threw that crap away the moment I found it during a subsequent move. . .

I was under the impression this is a recent change to the law. . .

Florida has had Real ID for years.  The federal act requiring it took effect back in May of 2008, so states have been given plenty of time to comply.

What most people don't know is that to remain compliant, you can only renew one time via a web portal.  If your previous renewal was by mail or online, your next renewal has to be done in person, at the DMV office, with requisite documents in hand.

First I've heard of it. . . Although I knew about the having to go there every other renewal. I've been doing that for awhile now myself.

Seems a lot of people are misinformed surrounding this legislation in Indiana. If your DL or state ID does not have a star in the corner, you do NOT have a "real ID". . .
