The following is from today's Washington Post, Local News, Virginia, Northern:

Horsemeat, horse genitals seized at Dulles Airport

17/02/2017

Two women flew in from Mongolia with animal meat concealed into juice boxes, U.S. Customs and Border Protection officials said Thursday.

CBP's agriculture officials discovered the items during a routine agriculture exam after the women arrived from Mongolia, according to a CBP release.
Neither woman was charged, and the meat was incinerated.

CBP officials treat horsemeat as "unknown ruminant meat and seizes it due to fears of foot and mouth disease", according to the release.

CBP says horse meat is prohibited from entering the US without an official certification due to fears of foot-and-mouth disease. Horsemeat from Mongolia is prohibited due to concerns of introducing animal diseases to USA livestock industries.

"Customs and Border Protection takes no pleasure in seizing and destroying travelers' food products", Wayne Biondi, Customs and Border Patrol Port Director for the Area Port of Washington Dulles, said in the statement. CBP noted that people often travel with food products that are normal to their culture but are not allowed in the U.S. A CBP narcotics detection canine then alerted to the vehicle's spare tire where officers found multiple packages containing almost 30 pounds of meth worth $900,000.

Over the years, CBP says it has found charred monkeys, cocaine inside fully cooked chickens, live sea horses and giant African land snails.

U.S. Customs and Border Protection officers at Arizona's Port of San Luis recently arrested two Yuma residents this weekend for alleged attempts to smuggle a combined 30 pounds of methamphetamine into the United States.
