My ex, who is now deceased, did this for 30 yrs and I admire and appreciate him for this and worried about him every day he worked at this part of the job. Only 2 out or 35 in his apprentice class, one of them being him, survived to retire. We may have ended up divorcing but we did have good times too.

One of the first thing I see in the pictures are the lack of safety equipment.  Having no safety gear in any form.   In an occupation where the slightest mistake, slip meant death.  :death:

I can remember when I started being a pipefitter working high up in the factory over concrete floors, machines, hot boiling tanks of acid without a safety harness.  After many years with OSHA, the Occupational Safety and Health Act we started getting the safety equipment we needed.  All through out the skilled trades work, the number of deaths dropped drastically.

Now OSHA is under attack by Trump and the Republicans in congress.  With plans to do away with this worker safety program.

OSHA visited the job sites quite frequently and they did have safetys but some of the things you had would have put the Ironworkers in more danger.

Troll, think about it. What would they anchor a safety harness too since they're putting the structure together? They couldn't anchor to it since it would need to be above them. Now in some instances they did have nets but on the inside not the outside. If they used cranes to anchor safety harness' that would be one pr man, up to 10, which would in itself be dangerous since that's how they get the steel in place to set it and they would be getting in each others way. Any other questions?

Hell to the no! My palms are sweating just thinking of being up that high, and not in a perfectly good aircraft or beneath the canopy of a parachute.  :spooked:

I would hope they are well paid and you're probably right about the balls.
