Wildfires advanced into Gatlinburg Tennessee yesterday evening and overnight, setting the downtown area ablaze and destroying some of the tourist attractions in Gatlinburg proper and adjoining cities. Thousands have been forced to evacuate, and while rain didi come through overnight, it was hardly enough to positively impact the situation.

Horrible situation and I am saddened to see one of my favorite areas in the South burning. . .

One of the fires is within 20 mi of my daughter. I feel so sad for those people in Gattlinburg.

Apparently the whole upper area of the Ober Gatlinburg tram and ski area has been destroyed.  I rode that tram many times as a child on visits to Gatlinburg.

The Chapel has been destroyed too and I believe Ripley's and the place where the animals were, I forget what they called it but it wasn't called  a zoo.

The Ober Gatlinburg cam hasn't refreshed since around 9pm last night.  However, the latest image is still there and the orange glow of a fire can be seen off in the distance.  :spooked:

A lot of these webcams are offline either due to the fires or other reasons.  The ones that are functional look to be in areas away from the fires.  No smoke is even visible anywhere.
