As far as I know we only have one active member who, I think,  lives in Florida: Locutus, so, my forum friend, here's hoping that you are well out of the reach of that huge storm.

Central Florida around the Kennedy Space Center and Cocoa Beach may take a direct hit from this Cat-4 storm.  Current sustained winds are 140mph.

Look at the loop.  It may come back next week and strike again.

I heard on the news that there was a good chance Florida was going to get double tapped by this storm.  That's not good.

Law of Logical Argument - Anything is possible if you don't know what you are talking about.  ;)

"You've probably noticed that opinion pollsters go out of their way to include as many morons as possible in surveys ... I think it's dangerous to inform morons about what their fellow morons are thinking. It only reinforces their opinions. And the one thing worse than a moron with an opinion is lots of them." -- Scott Adams

In other words: Never underestimate the power of stupid people in large groups.  ;)

"It is difficult to get a man to understand something when his salary depends upon his not understanding it." -- Upton Sinclair

"Hitler is gone, but if the majority of our fellow citizens are more susceptible to the slogans of fear and race hatred than to those of peaceful accommodation and mutual respect among human beings, our political liberties remain at the mercy of any eloquent and unscrupulous demagogue." -- S. I. Hayakawa

Stay safe, Locutus. It sounds like Florida is going to be hit hard.

Dodged a bullet!  No major structural damage anywhere.

That is great. I have a classmate friend from high school who lost some trees.

I know this was started about Fl but where hubby's niece is living in NC is supposed to get slammed within the next few hours. She has a generater and a battery pack for her wateproof camera, she's a professional photographer, so she's gonna keep us updated on what's happening. She said they've already been hit by a tornado and it was horrible.

Hurricanes can spawn tornadoes.  Not too many people know that.

When I lived in Texas years ago and one was headed our way one of the older locals at a small grocery store I went to said he didn't run from hurricanes because of running into the tornadoes they spawned and he thought they were worse. I guess this has been downgraded to a cat 1 now thank goodness.

Well, it's been a while, but what happened here yesterday is worth mentioning! :spooked:  Seems like our weather forecasters overreach in their predictions, so what they said we'd get  -- a lot of wind -- maybe up to 70 mph -- was hard to believe. But this time they were right. It began before daylight, and we lost electricity at about 7:30 a.m. Didn't come back on until after dark, maybe 7:30 pm. The federal government was closed, as were schools. Wrecks all over the place. And for the first time in memory I-95 south not too far from here was closed, and still was today the last I heard -- because a huge sign near the on/off ramps of a large shopping area was leaning toward the highway. In fact, the last I heard it was still closed.

It was the pits spending an entire day with no electricity and not able to go out because of the wind. But by the time it was over I felt really good about one thing. No trees fell on my roof! I live in a large community in what used to be a forest. We still have a lot of trees, and my house is at the down side of a slight hill. There are trees between me and houses up the hill behind me. Tall trees! And not only that, I have a huge crape myrtle  in my back yard. I used to worry about a tree falling on my roof during thunderstorms, but after yesterday, I felt so relieved, because most of the storm seemed to pass well overhead.
