How about the Lenin Statue in Seattle?

Should we tear that down?

I have a feeling you only know about this statue because of meme on FB.  Here's the story:  http://www.seattletimes.com/seattle-news/lenin-statue-is-loved-hated-and-very-fremont/   and from Fremont themselves: https://fremont.com/about/lenin/   This is a privately owned statue.

From another article I read:  "Lenin will also be overlooking the Sunday Flea Market, which we think will be appropriate: Lenin the father of communism overlooking micro-capitalism at its best."  I have to wonder how many of our young people know who Lenin is, and if they don't and see him looking over a flea market think he approves capitalism.

I'm not defending this, honestly I'm not sure where I stand on this whole tear down the statue thing.  I understand both sides.  What I do not agree with is when someone says we are getting rid of history by taking down a statue.  Why?  We have no books telling us what happened?  I've never seen a statue of Gen. Lee, but I know the history behind him.
In three words I can sum up everything I've learned about life: it goes on. Robert Frost

The statues glorify those that supported slavery and racism in history.

If you don't want them torn down, then place them into museums. End of controversy.

But rather than do something sensible we allow one of the most egregious hate organizations in the nation to hold a rally in protest of the tearing down of the statues. Know full well that said "rally" will drive those opposing said hate and racism to conduct a counter protest. A 6 year old could have predicted it.

The same shit happened when they rallied in Humbolt park in Chicago many years ago. And like this recent event, the white supremacy assholes were armed to the teeth. People were beaten, shot, maimed and killed. But the Potus didn't fan the flames of hatred and makes statements blaming all sides back then. Instead he placed blame where it belonged upon those that incited the conflict.

One of the leaders in his false bravado granted an interview to a reporter, showing her the semi automatic hand guns he was "carrying at all times"; a glock, Ruger, and Keltec : each in 9mm. And 2 Assault rifles. . . Who goes to a peaceful protest armed like that? Those looking for conflict. This same leader is epically failing post event is his attempt to play the victim card with the media, while crying crocodile tears.

So should the anti-hate protestors have gone to their counter protest unarmed? The reality is most of them did. In fact all but the extremist faction amongst them. (Which were n the minority). And yet the Raging Cheeto places blame upon them all. Horseshit. 😡

The hate faction in the current event incited what happened. Then they killed an innocent woman and injured 19 others by using a motor vehicle driven intentionally into a crowd of counter protestors.

How ANY elected leader could see his/her way to find it acceptable to blame this upon those holding the moral high ground in this situation is astonishing. He is doing nothing but increasing the bravado of the white supremacists because they see it as supportive. And they are not wrong about that. 😡😡😡

Like these people read books?  They want the statues left there so that when they get drug into court for not paying child support or to face their latest meth charges they can learn history.

If hatred for something causes a group to be violent then, yes, they are a hate group.

You have yet to explain what they hate.  It isn't a trick question.

You know that statue is privately owned and routinely mocked by dressing it up, right?

I do now.  They should arrest anyone trying to destruct it. Same with any statue.  Respectfully removing, not acting like barbarians, publicly destroying it, kicking it and spitting on it tells a lot about people.

My take on the confederate statues, is it should be up to the towns people.  If they no longer want it get rid of it.  If the people want it, then protect it.

Just for arguments sake........where does it stop?  As Trump pointed out, should Washington and Jefferson landmarks be destroyed because they were once slave owners?

As I pointed out to Trump on his Twitter feed, virtually all of these statues and plaques were erected by segregationists and were intended to scare and humiliate people of color, not to celebrate a common experience.  That's the real history.

QuoteJust for arguments sake........where does it stop?  As Trump pointed out, should Washington and Jefferson landmarks be destroyed because they were once slave owners?

Lee was a traitor who took up arms against U.S. soldiers.  Despite owning slaves himself, Jefferson wrote an ordinance preventing new states that entered the union from allowing slavery and Washington freed his slaves in his will.
