The founders absolutely did fear a tyrant.  That's stated pretty clearly by Hamilton's own words.  Why would that be playing with fire?
When our EC Delegates would/could actually overturn the "will" of the people to empower someone "they" prefer would INDEED be playing with fire...and tyrannical.  It is a double edged sword.

Even though it's their Constitutional responsibility?

The only reason that I agree that it may cause problems is because the electorate is ignorant of even the basics of the way our government is set up.

Who is to determine if they are ignorant or not?  Just because you or I may not agree doesn't ALWAYS make the other ignorant.

How would you have felt, if our delegates in 2008 would have NOT selected Obama?

Like I said, it is a double edged sword....and while I somewhat understand the reasoning, it is also playing with fire.

Ignorance and intelligence can be measured via empirical methods, can they not?

"We won with young. We won with old. We won with highly educated. We won with poorly educated. I love the poorly educated.." ---  Donald J. Trump

He said that for a reason - because he should love them.  They are a large part of what got him elected.  He consistently, and overwhelmingly, led his primary opponents, and HRC, due to his support among the less educated of the electorate.

The deliberative responsibility of the electoral college should come into play when there is a grossly unqualified and/or dangerous person who has won the vote of the people.  However, you can cast your fears aside, because that will never happen in this day and age.  Do you know why that is?

With all due respect, are YOU actually that much of a snob?  Just because someone is poorly educated, does not make them stupid or invaluable...there are plenty of good Americans who may have not done well in High School, but when on to be excellent members of our society!
Many of these folks are IBEW, that are fantastic and make a wonderful living....Painters, plumbers, farmers, steelworkers, waiters & waitress, mechanics........THESE are the folks that Trump was referring too...but arrogant liberals, once again, seem to think they know MORE than others....

YOUR ilk, are the one's that make this "loophole" in our system dangerous!!!!

THIS is EXACTLY why Trump WON the primaries in a HUGE fashion and a big reason as to why he is our 45th POTUS!!!

Those are Trump's own words Hank, not mine.  Like it or not, there are data that support exactly what I said above.  ;D

I never said they weren't good members of society, or weren't valuable.  Stupid maybe, but I never said those other things.

A more interesting thing to study is why the less intelligent supported Trump in such large numbers.  It probably isn't a factor solely based in stupidity.

I have no doubt that some of those folks have been facing a real and worsening struggle in the past several years to make ends meet and put food on the table.  Then, along comes Trump who says, "You're right! You're not getting your fair share! It sucks! And I'm going to stand up for you!"

So without doing any real thinking or analysis of what Donald Trump was saying, because most of the things he was saying were lies, they vote for him because he's telling them what they want to hear.  Nothing more; nothing less.

The coal miners voted for him because he said he'll bring coal back.  He can't do that obviously, but they didn't care.

The bigots voted for him because he wants to ban Muslims from entering the country and add them to watch lists.  That's borderline unconstitutional, but they didn't care.

You voted for him in part because he said he would impose term limits on Congress.  He can't do that either, but you didn't care.

There are many factors that led to his election, but you can't deny that a majority of the less intelligent supported him because there are data that support exactly that.

Where do you think Edgar Maddison Welch, who shot up a DC pizza restaurant because he thought Hillary Clinton and her campaign chief were running a child sex ring from the restaurant's backrooms, lies on the IQ scale?  Here's a clue:  not very high.

Locutus, it was no different when Obama was appealing to the "POOR" with his "Hope & Change" malarkey....he was playing to the less intelligent crowd too (by your standards anyway)....

If you want to get down to it....you are being extremely hypocritical here.

Let's call it like it is.......you are saying that the white people who voted for him are ignorant.  Right?

But, the folks (black folks) who voted for Obama were educated?  Right?

It seems like you are being extremely racist and bigoted with your insinuations....

Hypocritical means criticizing others for behavior of which you yourself are guilty.  So I'm definitely not being hypocritical.  ;D

I'm saying that data support the fact that the less educated supported Trump in large numbers.  That's definitely true.

I would have to go back and research the demographics of Obama's supporters in order to speak further to that.  Maybe I'll do that this weekend.

Nothing in what I've said, however, is racist or bigoted.  That's simply your perception, and it's a faulty one.

Listen, I know you and I know you are not a racist or a bigot, nor do I think you are intentionally being hypocritical...
I don't have statistics, but as you know, many of Obama's voters were poor blacks...and we know many of them are not college students and many, statistically are high school drop outs......but, I'm not insinuating as YOU did, that they are stupid....but, just as YOU are implying that Trump was reaching out to the stupid white folk, Obama was doing the same thing with his hope & change thing...

Right?

I'm not sure because I haven't seen the data as recently as I've seen the data on Trump supporters.  The reasons and demographics on Obama's supporters are out there.  Like I said, maybe I'll look it up this weekend.

Arguing with Christians is like playing chess with a pigeon.  No matter how good I am at chess, the pigeon is just going to knock over the pieces, shit on the board and strut around like it's victorious.
