http://www.wthr.com/story/31202246/mayor-hogsett-angry-over-carrier-move-to-mexico

And once again we see good paying manufacturing jobs, 1,400 of them in this case, fleeing the United States and moving to Mexico.

Mexico, where they pay the equivalent of one hours wage in the US to each Mexican employee for a day (8-10 hrs) of work.  And does it result in a drop in the retail price of the goods they manufacture? NO! But it does result in a drop in quality and in many cases an increase in prices!

Carrier, a brand name that has enjoyed nation-wide acceptance as a trusted brand, leaving 1,400 employees in the lurch and moving their jobs to Mexico. They manufacture the Bryant line as well; the brand of HVAC system I had installed in our home when we built it nearly 9 years ago.

And what are these people and their families going to do to replace the lost income? Work at WalMart, or some other retail store for less than half of the hourly wages they used to make and for benefits that will eat up over 33% of their income!

This nation and it's elected officials MUST reverse this flight of manufacturing from the United States. It is already past critical and getting worse each and every single day. Retirements are gone, replaced by crappy 401k plans that participants watch eat up their contributions on an almost daily basis as the stock markets dive.

And each one of those 1,400 people are going to get 26 weeks of unemployment and be cut off with no further hope of assistance in feeding their families and keeping a roof over their heads. That will equate to at a bare minimum,  700 homes being in foreclosure within 3-6 months, and a VERY high likelihood of 1,000 families leaving the state to find employment elsewhere. Those that do remain will be eating through their 401k funds, which they will be forced to roll over into an IRA, or into another account in the very dim likelihood that they find full time employment elsewhere.

Those that choose to stay and try to get by until they find another good paying job are destined to work within the plethora of "temporary workforce" venues that are the new jackpot for whatever remains of manufacturing in this area of the country. And they will be working for 10 bucks an hour at best, and still have to pay high premiums for healthcare that will eat up their earnings.

This crap has got to stop and quickly! Each place like this that closes up operations in the US and moves abroad, widens the gap between the wealthy and whatever is left of the middle class. And whether the wealthy want to admit it or not, the middle class are those that drives the engine of retail in this world; and if they have to spend the lion's share of their earnings on healthcare and food, guess which industry is going to tank next? That's right, retail.

These corporate jack-holes need to have their products heavily taxed when they are imported into the US, as a start. HEAVILY taxed. ALL of THEM!

There is a wage war being fought in this nation, and whatever remains of the middle class are the targets. Slowly wages are being driven down by those entities that remain in this country. As full time workers leave they are replaced by temporary workers for whom the company they work for has no liability surrounding benefits. The only skin they have int he game is the hourly rate they have to pay their employers; typically 8-10/hr over and above the 10/hr rate the employee is paid. Less if the entity has a nationwide agreement with the temp service. (Which most of the larger employers remaining in this country do).

And eventually, if they choose to remain long enough in this country, the full time to temp ratio reaches critical mass, and the company starts converting temps to full time at less than half the hourly wages of those they have replaced. It is a long-range strategy that many do not have the stomach for, which is why we see them bolting for Mexico.

Those of you planning to vote in the Presidential Election should be paying very close attention to this situation, and asking every single one of the candidates what their plan is to reverse the flight of manufacturing from the United States. And if they don't have a plan then eliminate them as a choice.

Being a billionaire doesn't qualify anyone to address this issue. Odds are they've become a billionaire by running this exact same scheme on the "peons" that formerly worked for their businesses. Or worse. They have zero perspective for the seriousness of the issue, and could not care less about it.

I've worked for several employers within my career in business, and I have been subjected to this scheme by every single one of them along the way. (Present employer excepted but suffice to say I am seeing it there too). I've been an employee of so many businesses that closed and relocated to foreign countries so many time I am starting to think I am an angel of death for business.

Price a residential HVAC unit for your home, and specifically look at Carrier or Bryant. They are NOT cheap and their profit margins are very healthy. VERY healthy. I know I paid dearly for the system I had installed in our home.

The thing is they are exactly like every single other business, including healthcare, wherein the goal is to increase the profit margin each and every single year. Executive bonus plans are structured based upon profit growth goals, and when LEAN and 6 Sigma initiatives reach a maturity level wherein all of the low hanging fruit is gone, and only a major re-tooling or technology investment is required to realize further margin expansion, Mexico starts looking really good to them. The ROI on a relocation to a foreign country is comparatively short when it includes a 50-75% reduction in labor costs. . .

It is time to start making those labor reduction savings fatal to these corporations. They cannot be trusted. EVER!

So?

How is it that automatically make him worse than a lawyer, who is bought and paid for by those BANKS that are financing those fortune 500 companies?

Why is it a bad idea to put an actual "Executive" to be our "Chief Executive of the USA"?

Why is it a bad idea to put someone who KNOWS how to negotiate with others to accomplish a given task?

How is it a good idea to put someone in office who is under federal investigation for several wrong-doings by the FBI?

How is it a good idea to put some in office who is a known and admitted socialist?  Who is running his campaign on giving free tuition to college students, when THAT IS NOT GOING TO HAPPEN?

Trump is unorthodox...but why not?  He is NOT a republican....according to the establishment.  He is somewhat independent, he does NOT owe any favors to anyone.  His EGO is what makes him endearing to me.  He HATES to lose.  He LOVES to win.  He is 69 years old, and has more money than he knows what to do with.  I believe him, when he says he can FIX AMERICA.

The more I "LISTEN" to him.......(not the sound bites that MSNBC plays).......but actually LISTEN to his entire speeches.......he makes a whole lot of sense.

He knows HOW to get things done..........anybody else, will be MORE STALE MATING.........our country cannot continue down that path.

It seriously doesn't matter what any single one of us thinks surrounding this presidential election.

In the last quarter of this year we will elect another asshat to the office of POTUS and nothing will get accomplished because no one among the popular voters does their homework or even tries to understand what is best for the country as a whole. It's all "me,me,me" and they believe the emotional propaganda being put out there that supports their selfish world-view and voila; another puppet takes the helm. . .

I see all these meme's talking about drug testing for public assistance, with no thought to who is paying for that crap. I think their ought to be a standard aptitude test in order to obtain a license to vote!

Henry, I'm really for you.  I want Trump to be your presidential candidate.     You and "ME" can go and support him and we can sit back and make fun of all of the fools who vote for him.  :trustme:

Remember you voted for George W. Bush two times and we all seen how that worked out for the American people.    Bird Boy you sure know how to  pick them.  :haha:    :dizzy2:

You just don't know how tired I am of hearing this foolishness from the Right about 'negotiating' with them.

How does anyone expect anyone to 'negotiate' with the Right - the Right who takes the most extreme (and I would suggest anti-American and harmful) positions imaginable and then state "you must come to our position!"

Not only does that rule out any 'negotiating', if one actually cares about this country, those positions of the Right cannot even be accepted on premise.

Where is your personal demand for experience in all of this? Real, governmental experience. The only thing Trump knows is "leadership through attrition" and that east coast style measurement of "if you're not screaming you're not working".

How will this serve the interests of the American People within the diplomatic arena?

Leadership via attrition does nothing to implement long term solutions to our problems. It can produce short term gains but those are rarely if ever sustained. Along the way the battlefield is left strewn with broken and dead relationships; relationships that are imperative to the continuous improvement of our nation and the sustainment of solutions implemented.

I think this latest great recession is a primary example of the untenable position of attrition style leadership. "Too big to fail" is a fallacy, and it is this exact same theory people are endorsing with the blowhard. (Who by the way is currently on live within Meet the Press).

"Trumped" up lies and speculation are all that are behind this attempt to impose Kangaroo Court session upon Clinton. This has already been admitted to by the conservatives and it relegates this statement to sour grapes status. Show me a career politician that doesn't have some manufactured baggage in this circus.

I've never said it is going to be pretty or acceptable, or a good idea. The fact is each and every single general election comes down to the lesser of several evils presented for the office. This time it is no different. The "crux of the biscuit" is the fact the overwhelming majority in this nation use their emotions to decide instead of their brains. THAT is the root cause of this problem!

You're listening to your emotions Hank, not your brain. Trump is bombing on Meet the Press right now. BOMBING. You really need to get engaged man.

He's dictatorial in style and everything you have claimed the sitting POTUS to be; and more. He has zero experience within public service, outside of throwing cash toward problems in order to achieve a personal objective. I see no reason to believe he would change that as POTUS. None at all.
