That was meant to be a joke. I thought it was very funny. (I laugh at myself quite often .  :spooked: )

I get it!    It was taken as a joke.

One out of 4 people in this country is mentally unbalanced.

Think of your 3 closest friends.

If they seem OK, then you're the one.

Hmmm... OK, let's see: there's Martha and Millie and Beth ...

Huh?

1 out of 3 are sane. (And that 1 is me!)  :icon_twisted:

Have been thinking about something followsthewolf wrote about fantasy football that I posted recently:

It's one of those pretend things that people do when they can't, or won't, do the activity themselves.  Kind of like living your life vicariosly through your children's activities.  Fantasy football, racing, basketball, etc, etc.

Kind of like posting on a forum. When you can't or won't, etc. get out and talk to people in person.
I did not mean that to be a snide remark about those of us who regularly post here. It was more a reflection of my life. Most people who live and work here do not have the time to make friends other than at work. Lots of bedroom communities. Exception, those who go to church regularly.

I had never been on a chat room when a friend in Florida urged me to join the Bluefield WV posting board. I did, and oh my. Took me quite a while to figure out that there were way more characters than actual people posting. Then I found out something about myself (what followsthewolf wrote -- and that (I suspect) all of us find ourselves writing things that we might never reveal or discuss in "real life."

I pretty much post what I'd say to your face the majority of the time. There are a handful of members here who have met me in real life, and I am confident they'd confirm this statement.😬

OK and thanks. I guess the problem is mine because of the kind of work I became involved in the mid 80s. A top secret clearance was required to enter the office without an escort with one. So I first sat in a little room outside the main office and read documents until an analyst  took me on as his assistant until I got the clearance, which included a lie detector test. He was a great guy, became a good friend, as he taught me enough of what I needed to know for starters without seeming to teach. Then, when I got my clearance, I joined the office as proofreader, where the boss, a former Navy Commander, continued my education. A few years later (this was during the Clinton Administration) I was in the right place to get my third and final job in the same office -- involving administration and enforcement of security.

Actually, I do not consider it a problem. One learns to compartmentalize things of a certain nature over time.  I am sure there are many among us that have "tales" they could tell but do not speak of; within prose or verbally. It is a common trait, especially amongst governmental workers at many levels; from the grunts schlepping lives in the field to the Oval Office, and everywhere in between.

We all have "secrets" of some type. . .

Anyway, to put it simply, I needed an outlet that had nothing to do with family or job, and found it, first in the Bluefield forum, and then here.

But enough of that. I'ma goin' home in about 3 weeks -- back to Bluefield -- where I'll meet up with old friends from all over the country. We'll have 3 days to go back in time and  :music1: :gossip: :chacha:  :salute: :nowink:

While going through some old stuff came across the following, which somebody sent to Ann Landers.

Tips for Life
. Give people more than they expect, and do so cheerfully.
. Don't believe all you hear, spend all  you have, or sleep all you'd like.
. Don't say "I love you" unless you really mean it.
. Love deeply and passionately. You might get hurt, but it's the only way to live life completely.
. In disagreements, fight fair. No name calling.
. Don't judge people by their relatives.
. Call your mom. And your dad too.
. Don't let a little squabble damage a good friendship..
. Marry someone you love to talk to. As you get older, good conversation will be one of the principal elements of an enduring relationship.
. Remember that silence is sometimes the best answer.
. Read more books, and watch less TV.
. In disagreements with loved ones, deal with the current situation. Don't bring up the past.
. Never interrupt when you are being flattered.
. Trust in God, but lock your car.

"But I don't want to go among mad people," Alice remarked.
"Oh, you can't help that," said the Cat: "we're all mad here. I'm mad. You're mad."
"How do you know I'm mad?" said Alice.
"You must be," said the Cat, "or you wouldn't have come here."
