Making spaghetti sauce from scratch. It is presently simmering on the stove top, so I've been sampling it in order to get it seasoned right. . .

(Since I am not home to cook during the week anymore, I now have only the weekends in which to cook and experiment).

I'm slow roasting some spare ribs. We'll have them later with coleslaw, potato salad and garden salad.

. Growing up, my very favorite food was cabbage rolls. I remember going around the room in first grade and everyone telling their favorite food. We got hot dogs, spaghetti, hamburgers and when they got to me..m cabbage rolls. ;D

I wouldn't make them for years because they weren't as good as mom's. There's a recipe in the crockpot section that isn't too bad.

When I make my Hungarian cabbage rolls I make 16 at a time.  Since I don't make them to large when they are done we eat four right then and we package four to each package and vacuum pack them and freeze them.  The last one we ate, our last bag, was cooked last summer and they were still delicious.

I all so do this with mashed potatoes.  I cook 10 to 15 pounds of potatoes and divide them into 2 heaping cups in each vacuum bag, vacuum pack them and put them in the freezer.

Just grab a bag and put it in the microwave and Shazam :fireworks: you got mashed potatoes and I think they are just as good as fresh mashed.

I might add, I think a vacuum food saver machine is a good investment.  It is sure a time saver.  If you cooking something you really like.  Cook two or three times as much.  Vacuum pack it and have some later and not have but one mess.

Believe it or not, I was defrosting my freezer and in the bottom back shelf I found a two year old vacuum packed chicken.  I got it out, thawed it out.  It looked good, no freezer burn and smelled good.  I cooked it and guess what?  It tasted good in the chicken and noodles we had.  The old chicken still hit the pot. :grin2:

I agree 100%. We bought one a couple of years ago and use it a LOT to do the very things you suggest.

Extends the "freezer life" of food vastly!
