continued from the same Washington Post article:

"....The victim in the Fairfax City case lives overseas, and attempts to reach her have been unsuccessful. The Post generally does not identify victims of sex crimes....

Matthew, 32, of Charlottesville has been charged with attempted capital murder, abduction with intent to defile and object sexual penetration in the case."

(but wait: there's more from the same article by Jouvenal )

"Authorities had said that forensic evidence also linked the Fairfax assault to the disappearance of Virginia Tech student Morgan Harrington. She vanished after leaving a Metallica concert on the UVa campus in 2009. Her body was discovered months later on a farm outside Charlottesville. People with knowledge of the investigation have told The Post that the cases were tied by DNA evidence.

Matthew is scheduled to appear in the Fairfax case Nov 14."

Here's the latest, from today's Washington Post:

March trial date set for Jesse Matthew in Fairfax City sexual assault case

By Justin Jouvenal November 14 at 9:22 AM

A trial date was set for the man accused of abducting University of Virginia student Hannah Graham in an unrelated sexual assault case in Fairfax County.

Jesse Matthew pleaded not guilty to all charges in a sexual assault case in Fairfax City. A trial date is set for March 9.

Friday's court hearing marked Matthew's first in-court appearance in the Fairfax case.
Matthew has been charged with attempted capital murder, abduction with intent to defile and sexual penetration with an object in an attack on a 26-year-old woman in Fairfax City on the night of Sept. 24, 2005.

Authorities allege that Matthew grabbed the woman from behind as she was walking home from a supermarket, carried her to a nearby park and then violently attacked her. They said he fled after being startled by someone passing by.

He is also believed to have been involved in the disappearance of Graham from Charlottesville in September. In that case, Matthew has been charged with abduction with intent to defile. Nearly six weeks after Graham went missing, authorities found her remains on an abandoned property outside Charlottesville.

Matthew has his first appearance in the Graham case Dec. 4.

In the Fairfax County case, Matthew's defense team did not seek a psychiatric evaluation of Matthew — a move that was seen as a shift in tactics from earlier strategies of his defense.

The move signals that Matthew's mental state would play a prominent role in his trial and possibly that his attorneys could pursue a defense that he was insane at the time of the crime or is incompetent to be tried.

Fairfax County assistant public defender Robert Franks did not explain the change, but he said the request for an evaluation would not be submitted. James Camblos, the attorney that signaled his desire for the evaluation, did not return a call for comment.

Jesse L. Matthew has been charged with first degree murder in the death of Hannah Graham.  They just wrapped up a news conference minutes ago.
