The older I get, the more attractive the south looks to me.  I always LOVED snow and winter.....but, not so much anymore.

My wife is already READY to move to Orlando....to be closer to Micky.

My ride in today was akin to taking the back roads of Morrocco ! Ice and snow covered the interstate the whole way. A thirty minute drive was 1.5 hours of bumps and ruts and sliding; even in four wheel drive.

My wife got stuck 6 times on the way home from work. It took me an hour and a half to get home, and by the time I did get home she beat me by only 10 minutes.  :big grin:

She works the next exit down from our home. I work 20 miles away.

If you live in central Indiana and are planning to leave the confines of Anderson, there are some things you should know in advance:

1. The roads in Anderson may seem bad to you, but if you leave the city you will discover just how good they actually are.

2. If your destination is a typical 30 minute drive, plan on it taking 1.5 to 2 hours. (No bullshit). If it is an hour drive, plan on 3-4 hours.
If it is any further than an hour drive away under typical conditions, do NOT go under any circumstances. You will be gone for a day and a half at least, and you had better have survival supplies on board, or they'll not find you until Saturday at the earliest. Under the flood waters.

3. If your vehicle is not equipped with 4 wheel drive, stay in Anderson. Leave there and you will be in a ditch or snow-bank and begging for someone to come get you. (Which they won't).

In my lifetime I have seen two Mayors of the City of Chicago lose their frigging jobs over very similar snow remediation performance to that of the cities, towns, and state after this latest storm. Seriously. After that there has not been a Mayor in that city that doesn't make damn sure that snow removal is THE top priority in that city.

On my drive home this evening I was in 4 wheel drive the whole way. 25 degrees outside and I did not see a SINGLE state, township, or city truck out spreading salt onto the 4-6 inches of solid ice that covers the roadways. Not a one. What, are they waiting for the temperatures to drop to the teens before doing so? WTF?!

(I guess I should have placed this into the random acts of venting three, but. . . )

Don't get me wrong; I absolutely LOVE snow, and this foot of the stuff, and sub-zero temperatures,  is a welcomed relief to the drabness of the typical central Indiana winter season. But .  .  . I REALLY wish the asshats running snow remediation operations in this state would learn how to properly do the job!

Well, it took me 3.5 hours to make it TO work yesterday morning. My ride home was 2 hours 15 minutes.  This morning it was 1 hour 45 minutes.  So, all in all, I THINK it is getting better.
Downtown Indy STILL has lots of rough roads.  The Interstate is MUCH better.  The next problem is going to be the flooding.

The same 1.5 hour trip each way to work today. Temps in the 30's and STILL NO SALT TRUCKS!

A portion of the bypass (67) was virtually snow free, however Delaware county  is absolutely horrendous, and any road you take being maintained by county or city/township crews are nearly impassable without 4 wheel / all wheel drive. Even at that they are like driving a logging road.

Anderson's main arteries are good by comparison, but getting into the neighborhoods also takes a 4 wheel drive vehicle. And if you have to go to Meadowbrook you had better have 4 wheel drive or some help to push you out of the drifts and snow banks. I had to rescue my wife yesterday from that neighborhood, and after hauling her out with a strap with my truck, I had to stop and push her out 5 additional times before we were able to get out of there. Needless to say, visits to the punkinhead's house are out unless we are taking the truck.
