We took the plunge and bought a Roku box for our viewing pleasure.  It downloads TV shows and Movies via the internet.  The cost to purchase the Roku, and a couple yearly subscriptions to Netflix and others are about the same as the Satellite dish was every damn month.  I already have a great antenna in the attic that picks up all the Indy channels quite nicely, so the dish got the boot.  Next year all I will have is the subscriptions, so the price gets even better,

Yeah. The thing that stops me is the cost to obtain sufficiently fast and affordable broadband service to make a set up like yours work well. . . Comcrap sucks.

Well. since I am out in the sticks, I had to go with satellite internet.  Which as it turns out was not a bad thing.  The company got bought out recently, and we ended up with some good download speeds.  www.exede.com/ is the name of the company.  We watched a movie yesterday afternoon, always a bad time for anything internet related, and you would have thought we were watching a DVD.  We had been waiting on a better internet connection, as well as our time to run out on the DirecTV contract to do this.  It all ended up taking place at the right time.

Out here comcrap has a monopoly on broadband service. You cannot get anything else in our area except comcrap. I have tried.

What really sucks is my next door neighbor gets DSL, comes off the same box I do, and I can't get it so I'm stuck with Comcrap for internet.  What's worse is they also get U-Verse and we ended up having to keep Dish Network or go with Comcrap for TV too.

I don't live in your area. When you guys talk about Comcrap, do you mean Comcast? If so, why in the world would anyone want a crappy DSL line when you can get 50mb or better Comcast?

I got comcast, and I rarely have any problems with it. My wife often works from home and my three kids are all on it, nearly all the time....and occasionally, we have to reset.

Cost and shitty service. 80 bucks a month for mid level speed broadband service. Over a hundred for near top speed.

Combine that with HD cable and a few premium channels and you are on the hook for nearly 300 dollars a month. And no other options surrounding broadband service.

I, like millions of Americans, cut the cable surrounding having a landline over a decade ago. This disqualifies me for their "triple play" discount package unless I want to pay for services I have no way of receiving. (Why do I want a landline phone bill?)

And in my area the cable / broadband services are far from reliable. Goes out at least once a week and I know this because my broadband STILL does this. And you have to runt he gauntlet to get them to provide a service call to correct the problem(s), then endure months of having to try to get the charges for a service call credited to your bill.

They earned the name Comcrap in this area. And they have a monopoly on broadband in my area.

I pay $30 a month for high speed Internet.  Another $30 for cable service. That's it.

I have no complaints....

Basic service levels. Local channels, no HD service, and broadband speeds that are just above dialup. . .

We have comcast and in the past have had a lot of trouble with the internet service, it would cut out several times a day. The last few months it has been much much better. We have over 100 channels on most of the tvs (including HD channels) and my husband has more than that on his tv, he has a sports package. I think the speed is ok, but I don't run a bussiness over it either. My daughter lives close to DC and has no cable service and really crappy internet. She works from home occasionally and I think she uses a Verizon hot spot for that.
