Ironic that I have not seen anyone comment upon the fact that Ali was Muslim. A Muslim of iconic stature that planned his own funeral in Louisville Ky, where he will be buried.

His services will be interfaith, and attended by leading governmental entities.

Plus it is also open to the public. I believe he was from Louisville, Kentucky. His funeral is going to be in the KFC Yum Center.

On here? I have heard it mentioned several times on different tributes to him on tv. Lots of people plan their own funerals.

Of course on here. . .  :roll eyes:

All this yammering about deportation and outright killing of Muslims by some, yet here is an example of one that endured since the 60's the ignorance of blind faith. --->(And the term "blind faith" is not used in the traditional sense within my posting here). <---

I guess I asked because it was well known he was a Muslim and never seemed to be an issue for anyone.

Ali was NOT a radical islamic muslim.  THAT is what MOST people are talking about from entering our Nation.  Approx 7% of all Muslims are NOT like Ali, yet they represent hundreds of thousand, who want to destroy this nation.  All we (on the right) want some proper vetting of those who enter this nation from Muslim countries.  It just makes common sense.

NO once wants to BAN all Muslims from entering the country...that is a myth.

Oh but it WAS a big issue back in the day when he first converted . Look it up. I was a kid and remember it well.

I remember, and there was talk, but I remember it being more of a curiosity than condemning. There were far fewer Muslims in the country then and people were surprised.

It was FAR more than just a curiosity.

He was systematically denied a boxing license in every state and stripped of his passport. As a result, he did not fight from March 1967 to October 1970—from ages 25 to almost 29—as his case worked its way through the appeals process before his conviction was overturned in 1971. During this time of inactivity, as opposition to the Vietnam War began to grow and Ali's stance gained sympathy, he spoke at colleges across the nation, criticizing the Vietnam War and advocating African American pride and racial justice.

Convicted of what, converting to Islam? I remember there were problems when he dodged the draft.

For refusing to go to the military when he was called upon. Can't just not go.  It went to the SCOTUS, before he had his name cleared as a conscientious objector due to his religious beliefs.
