Unfortunately, a 6-year old was just killed in this horrible accident this afternoon on I69 north of Anderson.... :(

Current reports say the child was 4 years old. 7 people sent to area hospitals and 2 of them lifelined.

The woman driving that Chrysler in the picture just stopped for no apparent reason, in the middle of the lane, and there was nothing the pickup driver directly behind her could have done.

The accident was witnessed by an off-duty State Trooper.

The 4 year old was the granddaughter of the woman driving the car, and the child's pregnant mother was also in the vehicle. . .   :'(

Hell if I know. It is befuddling investigators as well, especially since a member of the ISP witnessed the whole thing. And all witnesses they've interviewed say the very same thing he does; "She just stopped dead for no apparent reason with a car full of passengers."

The speed limit in that stretch is 70 mph, so it's a safe bet that since the off duty state trooper was in his marked vehicle, that's exactly how fast they were going. Most times it is 75-80 mph, with the occasional 85 + vehicle snaking through traffic.

They cannot talk to the driver since she is still undergoing treatment for her injuries. . .
