It's sad to say, but many of those GREAT's are getting at the age where SHIT happens....I wouldn't be surprised to see several more harvested by the end of the year.....

It's amazing the kinds of things I see regurgitated all the time.

I used to have such optimism for the Internet - back in the early days of course ;D - because of its ability for good.  To spread knowledge; to give access to information to those who may otherwise not have it; to make for a more enlightened and educated world.

Sadly, right after it became commercialized, all of that went out the window, and we're left with what it is today.  It's a vast cesspool of disinformation, crap, malware, viruses, scams, frauds, and outright bullshit.  Oh, and ads; lots and lots of ads.

There are still areas of the Internet where the original intent is still preserved.  There are tons of scholarly articles available, as well as credible research on any topic imaginable, as long as you know where to look.

It's just that most of the sites on the Internet, and the people who use the Internet, don't give a crap about any of that anymore.  They just use it for shopping, news that only reinforces their insular views, to communicate with family and friends, and to argue with anonymous folks.

It's a really sad state of affairs given the potential that once was, and in some small way, still is.

Same here.  All that optimism has turned to cynicism and me a curmudgeon.  When I first started the original UZ, I had such high hopes for the 'marketplace of ideas', and that the best ideas would win out and unify people and society.

HAH!

All that's happened is that the internet has brought together the stupid, the immoral, the corrupt, the predatory and coalesced them into a force that has taken over this country and elected their self-serving god, Drumpf, as president and raped and ruined America.

Woe to us that the internet was ever born.

I'd rather live with libraries and the Dewey Decimal System than what the internet has become.
