You never can tell when you may need a friend to help you out of a situation, and my family found itself in just such a situation only yesterday evening.

Our daughter is getting married the 20th of this month, and the invitations were sent, the hall was booked, the catering arranged; in short we were all set for this thing save the set up, ceremony, and the tear-down. . . Then yesterday evening our daughter was over and got a call from the reception venue. . .

Seems the new law surrounding smoking had impacted her chosen venue for the reception and the manager was now telling her that no one under the age of 18 would be able to attend, since the facility had chosen to keep smoking in the bar. . .  :mad: :mad: :mad:

Our daughter was in tears, and my wife ready to castrate someone; not to mention the other 4 daughters. All of which were looking to dad to put on the cape and transform into Superman. . .

Enter "me". . .

I informed her of what had transpired, and immediately she suggested another venue, and made a call to inquire about it. Then she put me in touch with the manager of the facility, whom I called this morning and we set up a meeting early this afternoon to go over the terms and view the facility.

It went extremely well, and my wife and daughter found the venue to be very acceptable, so we booked it. So dad  looks like a hero, the girls are all happy again and now have a small amount of changes to work on surrounding set up and decorating. . .

NONE of which would have been possible had "me" not stepped up to provide some badly needed assistance!

  I am so sick of the "Nanny Laws"  You can't tell me that there could not for a few hours, make this place a no smoking venue.  So many of these "Nanny Laws" are foolish.  There is to many damn mamby pamby, nanny laws. :bs: :mad: :mad: :mad: :mad:

  Like making a Big Gulp 32oz. drinks illegal.   :mad: :mad: :mad: :mad:

Doesn't work that way Troll.  If there is smoking allowed at anytime kids aren't allowed.  The place I recommended to PH had to be cleaned and pass inspection before they could allow kids in there just because it had been a smoking area before.

  Still the laws are dumb.  Like a kid is going to be hurt if they go in where there has been smoking.  What about all the people who have work in dirty, noisy, smokey and air filled with coolent fog and mist.  We're still here and haven't been damaged.   :rolleyes: :razz:  Oh, I'm sorry, it all about the dear little kiddies and they come first over all other things.   :rolleyes:

I think they're just getting waaaaay too carried away with all that no smoking crap.  As long as the building is well ventilated, which this one is, they shouldn't hassle the adults about smoking.  Mom doesn't smoke and doesn't like to be around it but they're even making her mad with all this silliness.
