The residents of Middleborough, Massachusetts, have had enough of this *#%@&!

And on Monday night they voted to make those who curse put their money where their potty mouths are - to the sum of $20, that is.

Police in the town of 22,000 will be writing tickets bearing fines in that amount to those who foul its public places with profanity after residents voted 183-50 Monday night that they were mad as *#%@& and weren't going to take it anymore.. . .

Sometime ago I stated that local and state municipalities will start digging deep in order to make up for the loss of revenues due to the burgeoning foreclosures, driven by the unemployment and economic decline; and here is a primary example.

How this bullshit is not declared unconstitutional is beyond me!

(I wonder if someone in Mass. reads this can I be fined?)  :spooked:

Actually, I not so sure I disagree with this. When my daughters were very young, I was known to confront some vulgar sob's who would spout off that shit very loudly in public. To this day, I hate going out to eat and listen to some mfucker at the bar throwing the f-bomb.

You shouldn't take your young daughters to a bar to eat.

Point taken. But that wasn't the case. I objected to profanity in very public places - shopping, at the beach, etc.

So basically you just didn't want to hear:

Shit, Piss, Fuck, Cunt, Cocksucker, Motherfucker and Tits

....while out in public.

I disagree and strongly. This impedes freedom of speech.

In situations wherein you are exposed to such language you are free to go elsewhere, which is what I do when I am accompanied by children. And educating your children on the fact that such language is improper and unacceptable is a basic job responsibility as a parent.

Moreover, establishments that want to nurture a family friendly environment are within their rights to refuse service to individuals using such language; all they have to do is post warning notices surrounding such. (Granted, in the current economic environment most will be likely not very motivated to do so).

The Indpls Colts have a section (or sections) that are clearly identified as "family zones", and strictly prohibit the use of profanity under the threat of expulsion from the premises.

While most of us may not find profanity acceptable in a family environment, I for one do not want to impede upon my fellow man's constitutional right to use it if they feel the need to do so.

Besides, "fuck" and its variables are pretty much required phrases within the east coast dialect. (In my experience). I've worked for some businesses wherein unless you used the word your colleagues wouldn't understand the seriousness of your perspective!  :big grin:

Well, I guess I must be a tad old-fashioned, but I believe that there are certain rules for a civilized society, and I will not bend on this.

What if I played that clip Locutus posted at the office without earphones? Would my boss understand my constitutional right to free speech? I guess I would be free to look for a job elsewhere.
