Robert Draper's new book, Do Not Ask What Good We Do, reveals a meeting by top level Republicans on inauguration day in 2009 in which they plot to oppose every bill and/or campaign put forth by the incoming administration.  They have since cynically acted on this plot ever since, putting their own political aspirations ahead of the good of the country.

Anyone can say anything in a book and that doesn't make it so.  It's kind of hard to deny something that's on tape though.  I know you deny it but at the time the dems had a filibuster proof majority so it would have done the republicans no good to plot anything of the sort.

The bottom line is that new Republicans fulfilled a campaign promise to their constituents; to cut spending, eliminate earmarks and pork.

They forced a Democrat Senate and president to abide.

The liberals were enraged, so they went on the attack to demonize ANYONE who disagreed.
