Babies don't have kneecaps, that is why their knees don't hurt when they crawl.

Sorry Anne you are wrong again.  Babies do have kneecaps.  Babies kneecaps are made of cartilage and are soft.

Between the age of 2 to 6  years old they ossify and turn to bone.  FYI.

I think you're both right. It's the knee "cap" that's not fully formed or made out of cartilage and covered by fat. Right?

All bone starts out as cartilage in the womb.  Right?  The only thing that stays cartridge is the cartridge in your nose and ears.

Zoos make me sad. Have I said that before? Probably. I know that they serve a valuable purpose, maybe it's because we need them to begin with. :(

I agree totally!

It's nice to see live examples of nature's variety of wildlife, however the cost in providing them to humanity, to those examples, surrounding quality and quantity of life, is most often unacceptable to me as a member of the food chain and great cycle of life. (This seems to have grown in intensity as I have aged and increased my knowledge base).

While a solid argument can be made surrounding the health, diet, and physical care these examples enjoy while in captivity, the morality of it all falls far short of acceptable personal expectations to me.

I enjoy a good zoological collection as much as anyone, but I always end up asking myself if the wildlife on display are truly achieving ANY level of satisfaction, (whatever that may be based upon the requirements of nature's blueprints).  I suppose a large driver of this is due to humanity's proclivity for ascribing human levels of self awareness and reasoning to all that nature presents us with; which is clearly false based upon genetic makeup and evolutionary theory.

But each day we learn more, and realize our previous mis-steps. . .

Not all zoos are good.  But the good do a service to the animal and us.  Most of the animals have been born in a zoo and that the only life they know.

The experts have said that the Tiger will be extinct in just a few short years in the wild.  Same for the leopard, black panther and all of the big cats.

Zoos have prevented some animals from going extinct and have repopulated the wild with these animals.  If fact the zoos will be the only place to see these animals, if the zoos are eliminated so will the animals.  I don't know of any way out, do you?

It saddens me to say it, but you are indeed correct! If not for the examples humankind has collected and kept, many species may very well become extinct; and the sad part of it all is when we realize what that is saying about humanity and its roughshod treatment of this planet and its environment.

That was my point exactly. As long as we have greedy and cruel humans then we'll need zoos.

We all know the Republican won't want to pay any taxes to save the environment, clean air, clean water.  A lot of them didn't want to save the American Bald Eagle.   We did save the Eagle and there are thousands of them.

Kinda ironic, huh? Considering that it's the national bird.

Talk about a gorgous bird! Wow, I really think they're awe inspiring. My next favorite is the hawk.
