Damn dog thinks he's a duck I swear! You ask him if he wants a bath and he hauls ass up to the head and is in the tub before I can even get upstairs! 

Have to be careful giving him a bath though, because his ears are prone to yeast infections. It's why we have to leash him on the farm and here at home. When he sees a pond, lake, or stream he hauls ass headlong into the water and then we have to start administering antibiotics for the yeast infection that is damned sure coming afterwards. Poor thing. It makes his ears turn to hamburger when we don't catch it in time. . . (Which only happened once).

If I had it to do over again I'd have clipped his ears. That way they'd dry out on their own.

He's a water lover too and has the big red floppy ears with lots of nooks and cranies for bacteria to hide in I found this stuff on pet meds, but buy it cheaper on Amazon (about 5 bucks for a small bottle) and I use it everytime he gets in the water and we haven't had one problem since. When I get home, I'll PM you the name of it. I just dry his ears out really well and put a couple drops in each ear and rub.

Cool. I'll give it a try. Max is so bad that the vet prescribes us enough for 5 - 10 day treatments once a year. That way, as soon as we see the signs we can start him on it. Fortunately we are pretty proactive in making sure he doesn't get into situations where he gets his ears wet, but in summer it can be a bit impossible sometimes. He'll even get under the sprinklers if we let him out and they are on! 

He's kind of particular about who he lets mess with his ears too. He will not let anyone but my wife and I get at them, and when he's got a yeast infection NOBODY gets near his ears. That time he was so bad I took him to the vet and he downright got nasty about it. I had to muzzle him and put him on his side while holding him at the throat, and then he would let ME expose his ears so the vet could look at them but pitched a fit when the vet tried to do it on his own.

Now we make it a point to look into his ears several times a day, every day. I rub them deep down inside as far as I dare to, and he has got to the point where if he start scratching his ears, I tell him to let me do it and he does. Lately he has taken to coming to me and putting whatever ear he wants scratched onto my hand as a signal for me to do it for him! 

About once a month or so I get my fingers coated with a little mineral oil and rub the inside of his ears with it, and he's not too bad with it, so maybe he'll let me put some drops in his ears now too. . .

  I guess I was lucky.  I had a German Short Hair Pointer.  If we got anywhere near water that was over a foot of 2 deep he was in it.  He sure loved water.  I never have ear problems with him.  Had some cats that got ear mites.  Got luck with you're battle.
