No. It generates shock waves in the air, but if no living being is there to translate those shock waves into a sound, then there is no "sound."

So according to your theory, if someone put a tape recorder by the tree and left, then came back after it fell, there would not be any sound recorded?

What the Hell is a signature? Am I supposed to type something in this box? I guess I'll find out.

 The recorder recorded the sound waves through it's microphone.  When played back the sound wave would be transferred to your microphone's, your ears, which would transfer the sound waves to your brain.   With out your ears or your brain there would be no noise.  Your brain makes the noise you hear.

So that's where that voice telling me it's OK to churn the butter with the lovely barmaid Doreen comes from! I was hesitant to have intimate contact with Doreen because is married to that jealous Amish truck driver, Amos Graber, who beats her all the time. Pastor Fuzz convinced me that voice was the Devil trying to lead me astray.

. . .residents of the upper Midwest and Great Lakes are expected to get the piles of snow that'll be lacking elsewhere.

The Farmers' Almanac, which claims 80 to 85 percent accuracy and says it correctly forecast heavy snow in Middle Atlantic states last winter, bases its predictions on a secret mathematical formula using the position of the planets, tidal action of the moon and sunspots.. . .

According to the upcoming edition of the Farmer's Almanac. . .

Since that last comment was weather related, I'll stick to that theme.  Have a look at the map below showing the 2 PM ADT advisory for Hurricane Earl.  This is what gives emergency managers in NYC nightmares.  Earl is expected to approach that area this weekend as a major hurricane (Cat 3 or above).  If you look, New York City and the totality of Long Island is in the cone of uncertainty.  If one of these hurricanes ever track just a bit more to the west (which they very well could do), NYC would be looking at a disaster that would make 9/11 look like a party.  It's been estimated that it would take 14 hours to make the necessary evacuations out of that metro area if one of these things ever came their direction.  Most meteorologists say it's not a matter of if, it's simply a matter of when.

I have a friend who underwent a complete lung transplant this past Saturday. The lungs went directly from the donor to my friend. Today she is sitting up, off all forced oxygen, and is showing no signs of rejection. She is breathing on her own and doing extremely well.

No leaks either so she may be going home a week from this Friday!

Interestingly enough the Farmers Almanac is, or used to be, more accurate than the weather men predicting just days ahead.

I too have been watching Earl, and depending upon which computer model you want to believe, that path may be a bit off. There are some models showing Ol Earl making landfall near the Carolinas and/or Georgia too. . .
