I don't usually do this but my neice is very ill. She is 10 and is in the hospital. The doctors think her immune system has shut down (boy in the plastic bubble). I would appreciate any good thoughts you could send to her and her family. Thanks.

Thoughts go out to Dan Weldon and family today. Weldon was involved in a NASTY wreck at Las Vegas Speedway today, and he was airlifted out. Condition unknown at this time. . .  :'(

UPDATE: Just announced by IndyCar Officials - Dan Weldon has died due to injuries sustained in the wreck at Las Vegas Speedway. . .  :'( :'( :'( :'( :'( :'(

I am pretty amazed at the reaction locally to the passing of Dan Wheldon, and am happy I live in the racing capital of the nation, and a staunch Indycar state instead of a hockey state.

Seeing the impromptu memorial to Wheldon today, as well as the IMS decision to erect a banner of Wheldon above it, and even going so far as to erect tents for fans who chose to visit the memorial, so that they could get out of the rain, was more than a bit heart wrenching.

It brought tears to my eyes, and while most would say it speaks to the man that Wheldon was, (and I agree), it also, to me, speaks volumes about the fans here in Indiana.

I saw memorials from all over the state, cards, letters, candles, flowers. . . And even ticket stubs from the Vegas Race that claimed his life, as well as stubs for the race that featured his picture on them. Stuffed animals, etc. were everywhere. And to see a dry eye was a rarity.

Somewhere Mr Wheldon is flashing that smile of his, and hoping all of that support and well wishes can somehow reach his wife and two children; and somehow sustain them through this terrible time.  :'(

I would bet that come next May, Mr Wheldon will be on the minds and in the hearts of every single IndyCar fan across the world. And Dan will smile again. . .

If anyone knows of someone having difficulty paying their Vectren bill, I heard at my volunteer job on Friday that Vectren has a "fall shutoff program" which is supposed to help people who have had their gas disconnected or about to be disconnected so they can keep their gas on through the winter. You can call Vectren or get more information at Energy Assistance. Also, free hot meals at the Christian Center (breakfast, lunch, dinner) seven days a week, free lunch on Wednesdays at Central Christian Church (12:45 pm)(this may include a religious service of some kind but I am not sure), free dinner every Sunday at First United Methodist Church at 4:30 pm (Usually also get a bag of groceries, too.) Food Pantries: Friends Church on Central Way (Mondays), Park Place Church of God, Salvation Army, Operation Love. There are more but I don't have my list at home with me. People can also dial 211 to get more information about where to go for help with food, housing, etc.

Up date on my neice: she is home from the hospital and doing much better. She was in the hospital for 5 days with a temp of 105. They ran multiple tests and the only thing they found was a "mild" sinus infection. They don't know why her blood work was so bad. They sent her home on heavy dute antibiotics for 21 days and are running more tests. Thanks for all your good thoughts.

Thank you. That is what puzzling the doctors, she should not have been that sick with a mild sinus infection. She goes to a lot of doctors because of her other problems (she has Sotos Syndrome) so I am sure they have really good specialists this time too. Hope they find out what went wrong.
