Learning to walk normally is interesting to say the least.  Been hurting so long, and compensating, I find myself moving in ways no longer necessary.  I have to actually think about how I am walking, especially on steps and the like.  It's tough to break old habits, but I am making headway.

I read that if you are having trouble walking.  Find a safe path, sidewalk, parking lot, some where, where there is nothing to trip over and walk looking up.  Not watching your feet.  I told a guy this, who had broken his knee and he told me it really helped with walking and balance.  Good luck.   :run:  :bliss:

Putting politics aside....I have a whole in my heart as I learned late last night, that my "right hand" man at work, and close friend decided to take his life.

I am stunned beyond belief and numb.....I counted on him on many levels at work...he and I shared our problems with one another...and though I knew he had some issues, I never dreamed he would follow through with such a tragic ending.  I would appreciate any positive thoughts and prayers.

I am devastated.

Just saw this Hank. Positive thoughts and prayers headed your way.

We grow close to those with whom we share the day to day stresses and challenges in the trenches. We must forgive ourselves for assuming we truly know them, for the reality is we never truly know anyone.  Not even ourselves.

It's why kindness is the best approach in most things, for we never truly know the burdens of our colleagues and coworkers. One act of kindness could be the very thing that prevents them from making the decision your friend did. It can balance their perspectives toward making a better decision; one that includes staying the course and fighting through whatever it is weighing them downward.

Some are really good at concealing these thoughts, so forgive yourself if you did not suspect a thing. Remember them as you knew them to be, and incorporate more kindness in your day to day life.

Law of Logical Argument - Anything is possible if you don't know what you are talking about.  ;)

"You've probably noticed that opinion pollsters go out of their way to include as many morons as possible in surveys ... I think it's dangerous to inform morons about what their fellow morons are thinking. It only reinforces their opinions. And the one thing worse than a moron with an opinion is lots of them." -- Scott Adams

In other words: Never underestimate the power of stupid people in large groups.  ;)

"It is difficult to get a man to understand something when his salary depends upon his not understanding it." -- Upton Sinclair

"Hitler is gone, but if the majority of our fellow citizens are more susceptible to the slogans of fear and race hatred than to those of peaceful accommodation and mutual respect among human beings, our political liberties remain at the mercy of any eloquent and unscrupulous demagogue." -- S. I. Hayakawa

Two weeks ago, I came to work with a hole in my heart that still feels as if it will not heal.  JD, was my right hand man.  I have known him for nearly 25 years.  Three years ago, I hired him to fill a position that I desperately needed in order for me to continue to grow the department of which I am the Director.

At first, I was a tad skeptical to hire him due to his "harsh" demeanor that he always seem to present.  He was a man, who love his beer, loved to hunt, loved the Indianapolis 500 (which he went to every one for the last 41 years), and could cuss with the best of them.  So, I knew or thought, I would have my hands full, bringing him into our office environment.

He had a great deal of experience though and he connected to my technicians. That was a plus and the main reason I wanted him in this position.

Even though I knew JD for years, I thought I knew him, but the last three years, I had the fortunate opportunity to REALLY get to know him.  He was a very hard worker, who had a passion for doing things "the right way".  This was why he won our "Customer Service" Award four years ago.

But, more importantly, I learned of how loyal and kind he was.  Behind his tough image that he portrayed was this guy who LOVED his family.  LOVED his friends.  He would do anything, without hesitation, to help out someone who was in need.  That is why he also served as a volunteer fireman in his small town where he resided.  He was the Captain of his FD.  He also had a sense of humor, that was something I never knew he had, until I got to know him...it was dry, but witty.

Unfortunately, he had demons that was relentless.  His desire to be the best would often antagonize him when he couldn't satisfy his thirst to do so.  He had a quick temper.  He would be outraged when something simple would disrupt his day.  If I would suggest he try another strategy, he would often become obnoxious towards me...but within a few minutes, he would calm down, and nearly always apologize to me.

I spent many hours with our doors closed counseling him...especially when he and his wife began to have marital problems.  His wife knew how to push his buttons to make him see red.  Which is finally what happened.

This is the part I struggle with...I know the demons won him over.  He was convinced that ending his life would ease his pain.  How is it someone who has so much love to give and was loved by so many...be in so much pain, that he felt he couldn't do it any more.

This post is more for me than anything....I am trying to move on.  My work load is enormous now.  I miss my friend so much.  I just needed to take a few minutes and express my thoughts to who ever wants to read this.

JD...I will miss you man!  I love ya!
