Got lots of movies, racing shows, and reading to catch up on.  So for now the wife won't bug me about not getting anything done.😉

Quote from: Mr442 on July 17, 2019, 05:58:36 PMTaking the rest of the summer off, didn't want to, but push came to shove.  Back in 2003 I twisted my left ankle pretty bad, but didn't think much of it at the time.  Had it X-rayed, but didn't find anything.   As time went on it kept getting more troublesome, finally to the point of surgery.  I wanted to wait until winter, but it got to where I could walk very little.  So yesterday the good doctor and staff at Ortho Indy performed a fusion of my heel and ankle.  Basically they ran two lag bolts from the back of my heel at an angle into my ankle bone.  No more twisting side to side, and no more bone rubbing against bone.  It does not hurt at all so far.  I may have some minor pain as the nerve block wears off, but I no longer have the deep throbbing from my heel.  Now I wait until October before I'm able to put full weight on it. As it was I wasn't getting to do things I wanted, so there was no advantage in waiting.
Hope you have a speedy recovery.

Yes, but... try to get some regular exercise for the rest of your body. I speak from watching a sister who did not after foot surgery, and has really paid the price.

I am staying as active as I can.  Got my crutches and a knee scooter for mobility.  This limited mobility is driving me nuts.  Only have about 11 more week to go😖😖😖😖😖

Got the splint off last Wednesday, and I now have a cast for the next 6 weeks.  Other than the occasional nerve jolt, there isn't any discomfort.  The doctor said it was looking good, and now he is waiting for the two bones to fuse together.  I will say, the cast is far more user friendly than the splint was.  Boy do I miss riding my Goldwing, lawnmower, standing in the shower, etc, etc.

Glad to hear you're mending well.

The cast is gone!  Now I have a boot for the next month.  Progress is slow and sure, I should go back to regular footwear then.

Glad to hear the cast is gone. I know you're anxious to be back in regular shoes.

The plastic boot was giving me fits.  Not where the surgery was done, but on the upper part of the joint where the leg bone meets the ankle.  So I gave the boot, the boot a  week and a half ago.  Been walking in my regular boots with cane assist since then.  Today the wife and I took a ride on the Goldwing!  I'm not 100%, but I'm getting closer.

The Troll

Mr. 442, you be careful of that foot.  I had a friend who broke a knee and the doctor told him to be very careful of what he did with that knee.

Well, he didn't and he broke it again.  His daughter who couldn't handle the second break put him in a nursing home.  It took him twice as long to cure the second break.

Watch how you put that foot down when you stop that big Goldwing.      :chop:

Went back to Ortho Indy for my follow up last week, and the doctor was happy with what he saw.  Although he gave me the green light to get back in action, I am watching what I do.  Not so much from injuring it, but more from being gun shy from the pre operation pain.  I almost have to learn to walk normally again since I'd been babying it for so long.

Me and the Goldwing are getting along fine in my shortened riding season, and will be doing well come spring.
