That was always a concern to me when my daughter and SIL were stationed there.  I didn't sleep much when we went to visit either.  Same deal with my other daughter and SIL when he was stationed in Box Elder, SD at the AFB.

It's really amazing that there were no injuries reported.

I live in the flight path for Andrews AFB. It does get a bit scary sometimes when the C-5's go over. Especially during the annual air show when they go over in formation. I do get to see a lot of neat airplanes, though,

It is absolutely amazing that given the destruction and number of apartments involved in this disaster, there were no deaths reported! Only injuries were to the crew, and 1 or possibly 2 on the ground; none of them reported to be life threatening!

This was an F 18 D Trainer aircraft, thus there were two crew. What an outstanding job the airmen did in dumping the fuel to avoid a nasty fireball and explosion at impact. It is also amazing that they were able to eject at such a low altitude!!!

The ejection seat that are now used are zero altitude seats.  They have a rocket under them and will eject the men to an altitude high enough for the chutes to open.  These seat were invented by the Russians.

I sure would like to know what happen to the plane.  With two engines to go out at the same time is almost impossible.  But if it lost electrical power the only thing you can do is jump out.  Absolutely no control and unguided missle.

We really need to start cutting the budget for those folk's toys.
