that was excellent and I do agree with him....that is something that our children need to think about and encouraged to do....a skilled trade is going to be in demand as many will be retiring in the next decade....

Or not retiring thanks to the relentless assault on the skilled trades and average workers; in large part undertaken by our elected officials at all levels.

I know 7 years ago I was planning on being fully retired by now. Then the downturn and almost 2 years (cumulative) of unemployment succeeded in fleecing my retirement savings, and the elimination of pension  programs along with increased healthcare costs have combined to virtually assure I will have to work until I drop dead on the job, or become so addled by disease I have to be institutionalized.

I'd love nothing more than to be able to retire from the workforce and focus upon a new assignment that includes selective stimulation of the local economy; leaving the work I do to the young bucks and does. But that is NOT going to happen. . . ever. . .

  Mike Rowe hit it right on the head.  Not everybody need a college education, white shirt, $1000 suit to be successful.  With all of the factory shut downs the skilled trades have been dealt a death blow.

  No more machine repair, pipefitters, electricans, tool makers, pattern makers, die makers, sprinkler fitters, plumbers and all of the skilled trades to many to remember.

  Why, because the unions have been the biggest providers of apprenticeships.  The corporations want you to a first class labor, a second labor and a third class laborer with low wages.  Jack of all trades and master of none.   All taken from workers who went through a apprenticeship.  The cheap corporations want to hire twenty year old kids with 20 years of experience.  Without spending any money to properly train a work force.

  We need a change and we will not get it from the SCAB Republicans or the corporations.   :rant:
