Nope. He thought he was in the Indian Ocean. That's why those islands were called the West Indies.

That brings back memories of the "who discovered America" conversation that we had once upon a time.  That's when you first brought out the coloring book.  :rotfl:  ;D

I guess it kind of makes you wonder why the picked the "redskins" in the first place.  I would think it was supposed to be an honor, rather than insulting.  Why else would they use it?

The bottom line is, it is just a name and a game.  It would behoove the owners to come up with a more appropriate name....it is not the end of the world to change it.

If you read your history, you will see that "red skin" originally was not a derogatory term. It was even used by Natives to describe themselves (as well as "white skins" to refer to the Europeans.)

But then it became "Filthy Redskin" and the Natives didn't really take to that.

Really, it depends on who says the word and how they say it. My friends can call me a redskin and we laugh. But the racist up the street wouldn't dare to call me that to my face.

Are you a big Redskins fan yourself Bo D?

Not a BIG fan. But I watch the games when I have time. I like the Ravens too.

Skins football is big up there in that area.  I remember from some of my jaunts into there on business during football seasons before.  I stayed out in Silver Spring one time for about 8 weeks during football season.  I would ride the Metro downtown and hang out in some of the local bars and watch the games with all of the Redskin fans.  Good times!  ;D

Quite right HH!

You know I've been reading more about this BS this afternoon, and I'm asking myself where does this kind of crap stop?  I was looking up things that might be offensive to Native Americans and I came across something I didn't know.

We may as well just have the feds go after the state of Oklahoma too while we're at it.  Oklahoma is derived from two Choctaw words.  Okla, which means red, and humma which means people.   That's right folks.  Oklahoma literally means "red people."

Once upon a time, the word "******" was a perfectly acceptable word in American society too. What happened with that?
