And for those of you who were all "jiggy" over the Colts training camp moving to Anderson and spewing about the "income stream boost" it represents, I say ; I told you so!

The data is in and the reports show that the only thing the city of Anderson is getting out of it is increased traffic. Period!

It doesn't COST Anderson anything, so why not?  Personally, I can care less if they are here or Gary.  Since my son doesn't really care...I know I don't care.

No? You obviously haven't been traveling Scatterfield Road during training camp. You sit in that traffic burning gas long enough, you'll understand. . .

It CAN'T be TOO bad...they are only practice a couple of hours a day. It is NOT like there are thousands of people driving up and down Scatterfield Road...and Yes, I do drive it and have not noticed anything earth shattering.  I went to first practice and the traffic was not bad at all.

According to the Madison County Corp for Economic Development, they estimated that the Colts camp had an economic impact of $6 million last year.  So, having a traffic build up for a few hours a day may very well be worth it. THAT is all I'm sayin.  It doesn't cost the tax payers any money to have them here.

That was the view via their rose colored glasses. The real information and hard data say that they have virtually zero impact economically. Nada. Zilch. And it comes directly from the business owners, dining establishments, and hotels / motels in the area.

Al those "small business owners" some of you were predicting would see a treasure trove in income stream positive impact. Nada! Zilch! They don't even stop for gas.  :rotfl:

. . .That was the unfortunate refrain of many fans visiting Anderson University Tuesday for Indianapolis Colts afternoon practice. While most of them took the day off from work to make a day trip with their children to see the team, many had no plans to stay in town after practice was over. In and out.

"You drive through town, and it's really run down. A lot of buildings are boarded up. It's pretty concerning," Peter Rice of Indianapolis told The Herald Bulletin.

It was the first attended practice this year for Rice, a student at Purdue University who made one final summer road trip with close family friends the Koziols. Rice said the campus was quite impressive, and he recognizes that the city has made strides to improve its image, especially with a professional franchise as short-term tenants. Still, outside trips to see the Colts at training camp and occasional visits to friends who attend AU, Rice has little reason to spend money here.

"We didn't take any of the main roads to come here, and you can see in a lot of areas where the city is struggling," Rice said. "I just have no motivation to stay [after practice]."

While Anderson's economic and general ills aren't news, the city fought to bring back the Colts for the economic boon it would presumably create for the surrounding communities. Rice and the Koziols said they're sure having the team in town for training camp was good for the economy, though they had no intention of contributing.

With a feverish excitement surrounding the team and a mild summer yielding beautiful weather, the Colts have reaped one of their most successful campaigns strictly by attendance, with droves of fans coming out to quench their thirst for America's new pastime. Roughly 1,000 came to see practice Tuesday. But is it really benefiting the city?

If nothing else, the fans appreciate the convenience of camp being in Anderson. Tad Williams of Lawrence came with his wife, Lisa, and their two daughters, Monica and Camryn. The Williamses, like many coming from the Indianapolis area, shot up I-69 for the easy trek to AU. The girls were excited to catch a glimpse of their favorite player, Andrew Luck, and possibly get an autograph.

Tad Williams, who used to work for the team, has been to training camps here and Terre Haute and said Anderson is definitely the preferable venue. Still, even with his familiarity with the city, the family just came to get in and out of camp.

"There's just not a lot to do after this," Williams said. . . .

It's not like this city has a mall or anything either. That place they built on top of the dump is a dump!

I still think it is great.  Even if it is JUST food establishments that get the boost, it doesn't cost the citizens a dime.  It gives Anderson some exposure. I never figured it would do anything for other business's.....why would it?  It is JUST a two or three week stint, but it might as well be here rather than some place else.

The New England Patriots are facing NFL cut day next Tuesday.  Does Timmy Tebow make the cut or do they drop his ass?  ;D

The way he's been playing, I say they drop him.

Even the scouts are saying he isn't NFL material, saying he could only participate in a blocking role at best.

They'll cut him, but I wish they'd keep him. (For obvious reasons)  :icon_twisted:

I would say if he gets dropped then he simply is NOT NFL material.  IF, he is good, somebody would give him a legit try.... there is a quote that the NFL means Not For Long...implying if you don't win.   I really like Teabow as a person, but it is appearing he may not have what it takes.  But, we will soon see.

He survived the first cut, but there's another cut coming by Saturday.

He will be lucky to make the practice squad anywhere.

Reports say they're going to play him extensively Thursday night for the last preseason game.  If he stinks up the place like he has been, I say he's toast before the Saturday deadline.  Like I've said before, I just don't think he's NFL material.
