A big hearty thank you to all of the UNZ veterans. At some point your sense of duty lead you into service and a vital position to help keep our wonderful country safe and free.

Enjoy your day!

I joined because I knew I was going to be drafted.  I would not go to Canada and leave my country.  I wanted to pick my branch of service and what I was going to do as a job there.  I was willing to fight for my country, I just wanted some choice. :flag:

My dad said when he graduated high school, him and his buddies just went and signed up...it was 1942, and the war was on.  He said he didn't even think twice, it was just something he knew he had to do.
My grandparents had five sons at war all at the same time.  My dad was in france & germany, two uncles in the pacific, one in North Africa and one in Italy.  All came back home safe and sound.  My dad missed the battle of Normandy by two weeks....he landed in that beach after that battle, he said it was still a huge mess there.

My father was in the Navy from 1936 to 1954 (the last 9 years were in the reserve). He served on the USS Colorado and the USS Forrester most of the time he was active and spent the last year of WWII at the Brooklyn Navy Yard. My son served in the Navy for eight years and was on a submarine most of the time. I am proud of their service to our country. I thank all veterans for their service.
