My nephew did have a part time job so I guess that's what helped with the "extra" expenses.  He also served 4yrs in the Air Force so the extra year may have made a difference.

My son worked too....It was NOT a "free" ride in any way, shape or form.....He went through basic, with little pay, he now goes one weekend every months, and about 6 to 7 weeks during the summer......He has to pays for all of his gear and clothing he wears while serving out HIS pocket, he pays for the gas he drives coming and going to Hartford City or Atturbery or whereveer he has to go....he could be called out at any given time and has in the past...he is also on "call" for four years after he gets out, if there is a National Emergency.  He as served his State and Country.

That's what everyone sucking at the government teat says.

QuoteHe went through basic, with little pay...he now goes one weekend every months, and about 6 to 7 weeks during the summer......

He got standard active duty pay while he was in basic, the same as everyone else, and he gets paid for his drill weekends as well.  Unless he's receiving additional training, for which he is also paid active duty pay, his summer commitment is two weeks, not 6 or 7.

QuoteHe has to pays for all of his gear and clothing he wears while serving out HIS pocket.

This is an outright fucking lie.

Quote...he pays for the gas he drives coming and going to Hartford City or Atturbery or whereveer...

Because he chooses to drive his own car.  All he is obligated to do is show up at the armory and they will transport him to his duty assignment.

QuoteHe as served his State and Country.

By doing what?

Don't blow smoke up my ass; I was in the National Guard after my active duty Army service.

First of all Ex...He gets "drill" pay for weekends and during his month stint, he does not get 'Active Duty' pay...(it figures about $6 per hour).

he does have to pay for ALL of his gear such as canteens, gloves, boots and hats.......this is a fact.  They are payroll deducted.

He has NO choice on how he gets to an assigned armory, he was originally set up in Muncie, then they moved him all over, at HIS expense.  If his armory goes to Attebury or someplace then they provide transportation.

He serves his Country by preparing to go to war.............you think only if you get shot at, you are serving? please!

Not blowing any smoke up nobody's ass....just telling you the facts....

Drill pay is at the active duty pay rate for his rank for the two days.

That is an absolute, outright fucking lie.  The United States Military does not, has never nor will never charge service members for the clothing and/or equipment they need to serve unless that clothing is lost or destroyed becasue of the service member's negligence and must be replaced.

THis is not a lie!!...I too was shocked when he had to do this, but it is true........I know boots, hats and gloves are at his expense....they are payroll deducted.  THIS IS NOT A FUCKING LIE........NOR DO I CARE IF YOU BELIEVE ME, BUT QUIT ACTING LIKE YOU KNOW EVERYTHING, BECAUSE IT IS OBVIOUS YOU DO NOT...

That is a bullshit fucking lie...unlike you, everyone in my family has been in the military and they do not charge for anything they require you to have.  If your son is being charged, he is paying for things he lost, buying extra gear or buying items that are not standard issue.

Here it is in black and white: http://comptroller.defense.gov/fmr/07a/07a_29.pdf

Okay EX, I just called my son, and I will apologize and retract my statement.  He told me they get issued standard garb in basic.  If any of it needs replaced before they think it should be, it is on you.  In the Indiana National Guard, my son says if you wait on them to re-issue anything, you will wait for ever.  He has to buy pretty much buy everything that wears out, because the ING sucks as far as replacing anything.  I mis-understood when he told me back in his early days about this.

THERE!, I will admit when I am wrong on something......it does not change my point and view regarding his "service" and his compensation.

Glad to see you're man enough to admit it!  True that the NG is slow to replace stuff but as little as you actually use it, it shouldn't wear out.

It seems as if my son is always getting something....He is getting ready to go on a 4 week stint starting next week, and he had to buy some "stuff" before he went.  He is pretty anal about his "stuff" so it could be he just, wanted it, instead of, needing it.

Yep, if you don't have a job and are not rich, it's your fault.

But if you got a job at Walmart, America largest employer with huge profits.  You are going to get your health benefits cut and raised at the same time.

If you work 24 hours of less, SORRY you don't get any health benefits at all and Walmart has a lot of 24 hour employees.

And if they start paying their employees $10 to $15 pr hr plus benefits they will no longer be able to discount their goods making it impossible for the lower income person to shop there so not only will that put a lot of Wal-Mart workers out of work it will put construction workers and suppliers out of work because Wal-Mart will no longer make money, expand, or have a need for as many employees.    But hey, the unions don't care 'cause they just want that almighty dollar from the few employees that will be left.

The led you sheep by the nose in order to eliminate the teeth on the POTUS's healthcare reform bill, and now they are getting ready to bend all of you sheep over the barrel and give yah a nice dry hump with double and triple deductibles, 30-50% premium increases, and EVERYTHING gets applied towed that fuggin deductible.

But that's all roses and sunshine for you. . . until it hits home. And it will. . .

Won't effect me 'cause I had no insurance at all for over 11yrs and may as well not have any now since medicare is next to nothing coverage wise.  Had to give my health ins up in '99' 'cause it rose from $196pr month to over $400pr month and $2000 deductible from the original $400 deductible and prescriptions were no longer covered.
