Many states, as well as the feds, are considering the initiation of a "mileage tax" that would tax you on the distance traveled each year!

Up front, they are "saying" that this legislation would replace the gasoline tax that is currently used at to fund ongoing maintenance of roads and improvements. As Americans begin driving more fuel efficient vehicles, as well as reducing their driving and consumption of gasoline driven by the skyrocketing prices, the revenue streams historically generated by this are shrinking to the point where most of them are finding it insufficient to address current demand. However, I am here to tell you that once they pass such legislation it will be ON TOP of the taxation at the pump; and in addition to existing double taxation instruments like the ever popular "wheel tax" Madison county has imposed.

And just how do you think they will track your mileage? Well, among the methods being floated:

GPS tracking of your vehicle surrounding distance travelled

Electronic scanning of your vehicle's odometer at each fill up

Periodic physical inspection of vehicle odometer

So, once again we see draconian taxation methodology at work!

Yes, California is strongly considering it and raising toll prices. I can't believe the revenue from toll roads isn't enough to maintain the highways. There are a couple tolls that are 10 bucks each way! Multiply that by millions of cars a month.

In San Diego county's case, there are a couple really good alternate transportation sources and they're considering enforcing the tax during peak driving times to encourage the use of public transportation and van pools.

Seriously, it would be great for more people to use those services, but this is just another mechanism to bilk the public. The roads will still look like crap.

For those areas without so many alternatives, it's literally highway robbery.

If one ever takes the time to stop and drill down into the actual taxation we are subjected to surrounding the fueling and operation of a motor vehicle, it will drive unhealthy levels of anger and frustration!

Wheel tax
Personal Property Tax (Plates and in some municipalities parking stickers)
Gas tax (at the pump)
Toll roads
Mandatory insurance (still ignored by many)
Tax on oil and servicing
Inspection fees (some municipalities)

The list goes on and on. And now they want to tax you on the number of miles you use the vehicle each year?!

How long before they start taxing our lawn mowers and weed whackers????

And just imagine how this would impact those workers who have been forced to work for drastically reduced wages/minimum wages, as they are additionally forced to endure longer commutes to obtain employment!  :spooked:

Yeah, have you noticed who pays these taxes.  The rich take the gas and taxes off their income taxes, claim it's a business expense.  All so the rich don't own lawn mowers.  They hire so poor ass person to mow their grass.

Isn't it amazing the rich gets all of the tax cuts and tax breaks and some of the dumbass sheeple keep voting for the people that cause it.  The Republicans.  The're all fools. :jester:
