Key gas and oil facilities are being forced to close down operations, (there go gasoline prices skyward), television stations are going dark, the water continues to rise, and the nation's fourth largest city continues to be inundated with water and wind. . . :spooked:

FEMA will have their hands full there, and if another one comes ashore anywhere in this country they will be overwhelmed. . .

I wonder how many of these people have flood insurance.   :'(  If they don't, none of the damage will be taken care of by insurance.  Oh, the government will maybe give them a loan.      But they will give the Afgan government all kind of millions of dollars to repair their damage.

Very few I am sure. The ironic thing is in that part of Texas water is a scarce commodity. Building a home out there is a gamble since most of the water sources are wells controlled by the "water association" in a given area. Now they've got mega-gallons of it erupting from the skies and it has nowhere to run. . .  :spooked:

Most of the water treatment facilities that do exist are now overwhelmed and under water themselves. All these people wading through the flood waters are likely wading in raw sewerage as well. Tons of it.

Rescue workers are overwhelmed and people are starting to turn to social media looking for help in getting out of their attics and off the roof of their besieged homes. . . Even public hospitals are now being evacuated and shut down.

The Houston area had an ongoing complaint about all of the people that moved there and never left after Katrina, and now they find themselves in a similar situation. . .

I've been watching MSNBC coverage in Houston, and had to get up and walk away -- someone was interviewing a man who was describing his business losses due to the water so far; he varied between tears and talking about recovery the last time -- not complete -- it really hurt to watch and listen to him. So sad.

Thank you. I hope so too.

My wife is on the phone with one of the girls right now. A contingent of the NYFD and the Texas National Guard are camped at the front of their subdivision and making it their base of operations for the next few days. It is STILL raining and storming there. Schools have been closed for the entire week at this point. (Which will mean later start to summer break the longer it goes on).

Both of the girls still have electricity and cable, so they've been lucky that way as well. I just hope it holds out.

I lived in San Leon and then Bacliff for a while and my ex's family is from LaPorte. I've been wondering if the places I lived in and businesses I patronized are still standing and how people in those towns are doing. I sure hope for everyone's sake the prediction is wrong.

A creek behind one of my daughters residence is now a raging river and it is now about half a block from their backyard. . .  :spooked:

Winds there are still sustained and high, blowing over a greenhouse behind the other daughter's home this morning. (This is the daughter that has a rescue squad staged nearby consisting of fire dept and national guard units.). The water is still rising there as well, and has cut off all residents from leaving that subdivision.

Both still have power and cable, but I expect that if Harvey follows the prediction this will end later in the week.

School is cancelled this week and this morning it is expected to be cancelled for the foreseeable future.

My son in law that works for Houston PD cannot get to work, so he has been deployed to assist with the rescue unit near his home. He reported to work via watercraft yesterday and is still on duty. . .

Historic flooding and destruction . . . And they may be in for act II later in the week.
