I really don't see any thing wrong with it.    My dad was buried with my mom and his second wife who he married when he was 72 was buried with her first husband.  I thought it was good for both of them since their first mates died in their 60s.  It is possible to love two people, especially if their first love died first.         :smitten:
My parents were married for 41.5 years when my mom died. When he met the lady he is married to, his statement was that he loved and would always love my mom but that it was possible to love someone else. I told him that his first wife and my mom would not want him to be miserable. We love the lady he is married to. She has saved him in more ways than one.

It isn't that unusual around here to see "private services" in an obituary. Sometimes just private graveside services are held. I had never been to a funeral where everyone waited at the gravesite until the casket was lowered into the ground until I went to a funeral for my husband's great aunt. On the other hand, my daughter in law had never been to a calling/visitation where a family member stayed by the casket and spoke to all the people who came. She is from PA. Do people pull off the road for a funeral procession where you live. They still do in central IN.

I'm from PA, and usually the family is lined up next to the casket, not just one family member.

I've never seen people pulling off the road for a funeral procession.  We don't interrupt the line, and if the line goes through a green light and it turns red, the other drivers wait until the entire funeral procession line goes through it.

Family is usually lined up here at the casket but in the South or parts of it, everyone pulls over and stops for the funeral procession. It is a way of showing reverence and respect.

That is funny about that obit, maybe it was a second wife. I know when my dad passes away, he will be buried next to my mom. My stepmom will be laid to rest next to her first husband. Lol

I don't see anything wrong with it either. I just thought putting it in the obit was unusual. Troll, you are a real romantic. How sweet.

It ticks me off when people won't pull over and show respect.

I'll have to disagree.  If you are travelling in the opposite direction and not interrupting the funeral procession, what is the point of pulling off and impeding the flow of traffic?  To show respect?  To whom?  What if the funeral procession is for a gang-banger who got shot by the police while committing an armed robbery or a pedophile who died while in prison for molesting and killing a child?  I don't respect them...hell, I'm glad they're dead!

To show respect for the family, even though you probably don't know the deceased, the family has lost someone they loved.

I agree on all counts.  If you're traveling in the opposite direction, there's no need to stop, pull over, or anything else that would impede traffic.  As a matter of fact, it's dangerous to do so.

Here's an example of a couple of motorcycle idiots (traveling in the opposite direction BTW) stopping for a procession.  This forces the car behind them to stop.  Then you can see what happens.

I disagree! That was just an idiot not paying attention to what's going on in front of him. It didn't necessarily have to be a funeral procession they were stopped for. It could have anything - a tree down in the road, a kid chasing a ball into the road, etc.

Where I'm from, you stop and show respect for the family. I have been known to not only stop, but to get out of the car and stand at attention in respect.  Sue me.

Ex, I'd pull over for you.     Cause I would know that this was your first and last trip laying down in the back of a Cadillac or Lincoln hearse.

After reviewing the video again, it appears that the motorcyclists were most likely complying with the law, as they were pulled off of the road and not impeding traffic.  The guy that stopped in the lane of traffic, along with the guy who appeared to be traveling at a pretty good clip, were the ones at fault here.

I did a quick review of a few state statutes along these lines and most are the same.  You are not required to stop when traveling in the opposite direction of a funeral procession.  However, if you do choose to stop, you must pull all the way off the road, and not impede traffic behind you.  That's what the motorcyclists did, and the driver of the car did not.

The guy on the motorcycle with the GoPro was just lucky he was pulled to the side when the rear-end occurred.  He would not have fared well had that truck hit him.

That said, I still find it completely unnecessary and annoying to have people stop for a funeral procession when traveling in the opposite direction.  But if you must do it, comply with the law and pull completely off of the road.  That way, you don't impede people behind you who may not share your sensibilities and want to continue on their way.
