Just about everything is shut down here. So far no power out  that I know of, but the wind is supposed to pick up about midnight, and they're talking about not only a lot more snow but also thunder snow.  The local TV stations have been covering it non-stop. And for the first time since I've lived here, maybe the first time ever, they've shut down Metro -- the subway and busses. They're going to leave the subway trains inside the tunnels.

I am going to bed -- who knows what morning (or midnight) will bring. They're saying it will snow all day tomorrow!

Snow, snow, snow.  But it's been a basically a mild winter so far, so I really shouldn't complain.  At least we aren't getting the blizzard conditions like DC.  Hoping as the night wears on and the snow turns heavy and the winds pick up that our power stays on.  I like a warm home!

If you're getting the same thing, be safe!  Hope everyone's power stays on and they get the roads cleaned up quickly.   :snow:

I'd like to see a big snow here.  The last one was fun for me and I got a few days off of work because of it.   :thinksnow: :LIS: :sunpeek: :snowbl: :flurries: :flurries: :haha:

Just saw The Tenors tonight.  What a great show!

Thanks, AbbyTC.  Didn't lose power, got a lot of snow, fed the birds, watched TV, read, dozed, day dreamed ....

For once the weather forecasters got it right and those of us who live here in the D.C. metro area believed them and stocked up on food and water and everything else, and, the storm hit us at the start of the weekend.   One thing was done way ahead of time; the power companies cut down trees near power lines after so many power outages during previous storms.  I usually fuss when anybody cuts down trees, but after seeing what a major storm can do, I'm all for it.

I'll never forget when my daughter, who lives in Richmond, called me after dark one night to say it was pouring rain with thunder and lightening, power was out, trees were crashing down, and she was afraid some big trees near their home would be next. That was a swipe by a hurricane. Don't remember which one. It was two weeks before things got back to anything near normal for them. I drove there several times to take them candles, water, food, etc.  After it was all over, she drove me around to see huge old trees that had been uprooted close by -- one was across the street from their house.

PPL have been doing that around here, too.  We ended up getting hit much harder than what was predicted.  We received more snow than some parts of DC, and broke the previous record set in our city.

My neighbors banded together and we helped each other dig out our cars.  We live in an apartment complex, so only two of us had shovels.  We passed them back and forth, giving each other a break from the heavy snow.  Someone brought a dishpan out to use as a shovel and we had two dustpans, too.  Necessity is the mother of invention!

Only in my hometown will you see household furniture gracing the hard earned cleared spaces once you drive the vehicle to go do some panic shopping.

Chicago and its surrounding counties are a great place to see peoples furniture in the winter time!
