I know we discussed the "new math" somewhere but I can't recall off hand where so I decided to post here. I was just looking at one of the problems someone posted on fb and realized it isn't new they just have to write the problems out now. I had a 6th grade teacher who taught math like that but we did it in our heads rather than taking a ton of paper to do it. It is simple but for some reason they have made it look more difficult than it actually is. What it boils down to is it's old math made to look difficult by adding unnecessary steps and telling people they are wrong if they arrive at the same conclusion a different way.  My teacher taught it as a short cut especially with multiplication and division.

I'm one, so thank you, Locutus.  It started snowing about 15 or 20 minutes ago, and the last I heard we could get 2 feet or more plus wind.

You never know until it's upon you whether the forecasters got it right or not. They warn, you prepare, and nothing happens, or, like yesterday the new D.C. mayor got so caught up with the predicted blizzard that she and the authorities in Virginia and Maryland didn't notice until it was too late what was happening on the roads -- the going-home traffic -- accidents all over the place, stalled/wrecked cars, traffic not moving at all for hours because there was some light precipitation which turned to ice.

Stay safe Libby!  My one hope for all of you is that the power stays on.  A power outage (especially is your heating is electric) is one thing that could make a bad situation exponentially worse.

Thank you. That's exactly what scares me because my power is electric and I don't have a fireplace. I'm better off than some because I live in a townhouse, a middle one, so have houses on either side. 

(I also worry about the birds. I've been feeding them so have regulars who show up at least twice a day. Along with a squirrel or two.)

I have family in Tn, friends in Ky, and hubby has family in Virginia who are all in the path of the storm. The ones in Ky moved down there to get out of the nasty In weather so needless to say they are not happy campers, especially the ones half way up a mountain side. The other friends live in a holler, (valley), so they may not get the wind as bad but they'll still get the snow.

I've been receiving pictures form my sister that lives in KY, about 2 hrs south of Lexington, all day long. It started out with freezing rain that left a thick coat of ice all over everything, then sleet, then followed by HEAVY snow and white out conditions. 

This was the most snow they've seen in our lifetime at Noon; and it was still coming down last I heard from her. . .  8)

It's snowing so much, so fast, that the local police are posting pictures of road conditions on social media. (I guess that is all they have to do; sit in their cars, take pictures, and drink hot coffee from a thermos.) They have 18 inches at this time, and it is still coming down.  8)  I have also heard from her that the governor has declared a statewide emergency status.

My brother also lives near the Cincy airport. I have not heard from him. . .

Here is a picture from I 75 Southbound at the 48 mile marker, (48 miles north of the Tennessee State line and just about 20 miles north of where my sister lives.).



A multi vehicle pileup has closed the interstate, which is clearly in severely poor condition in the first place.
