It's the math degree in me.  ;D
There's a reason why I don't use Math. Lol, and my father is a retired Math teacher. Lol

This is my brother from another mother, when he spied something in Target:

Imagine for a moment that someone that was 21 years old in 1950, was suddenly (at that age) transported to present day.

How do you think the world would appear to them?
(When the hell did all this stuff get built? Where's the "Theatre, drugstore, bowling alley, drive in" etc.?)

What do you think they'd think about the fact that entire families sit around in the same rooms, looking at their phones and not talking to each other? Or worse, being in another room and texting each other?

Computers? What is that? You can get that on your phone too?

Gasoline is how much?

You take them to a movie, how do they react?

I sometimes wonder how my grandfather (who died in 1956) or my dad (who died in 1969) would think of this world we live in. Probably my grandfather would think we had gone to he## in a handbasket. My dad was a gadget lover so he probably would have liked all the electronic stuff but sure be appalled at the language and lack of respect today.

And our grandchildren will wonder how we survived with such primitive technology. And so on, and so on ....

My kids already think that. We live in such a techno world. My son has a hard time believing that music use to be played on 8 tracks and cassettes.

Do you see my point?

I think I do.

We as a species, live in the here and now. Rarely do we take a single minute to consider how we, as a species and a civilization, have advanced. (Or declined depending upon the perspective.) Rarely do we consider how very different our lives would be without (blank), or how our ancestors were able to perform a task or deal with a situation before (blank).

Have any one of us ever considered the fact that without the invention of the personal computer, telephone, or internet, most of us within this very forum would in all likelihood never have known each other or had the opportunity to interact? Moreover, just how much each one of us take for granted the fact that we do know each other at some level, and do not take the opportunity to nurture the relationship, or use it to learn more about each other; instead frequently using it to tear each other down and make sport of one another. Often with ill intention in some cases. (I'm guilty of it too.)

That very line of reasoning is the impetus behind some of my personal posts in the Corral, or has been at times. My attempts to step back and try to view things from a perspective I may not normally take, or a perspective I take with regularity but suspect some others may have never considered.

This venue is an opportunity to share viewpoints, obtain education or even inspiration about an infinite array of topics. But most of us choose to use it to spout over political or religious rancor and propaganda; or worse. (And yes, my finger is pointing at myself).

We do not take any time to appreciate the advantages, and disadvantages we have in this day and age. Our advancements have served to do nothing more than nurture a sense of entitlement among civilization, and I definitely do not mean that in the modern, political sense of the word as it is most often used today.

Think about it. We absolutely feel entitled to know every single fact surrounding any event that transpires around the world, at the very moment it happens, and immediately become indignant when there is a delay of any sort in the news arriving. From a bird farting in Zimbabwe, to a volcano erupting somewhere within the ring of fire, if we do not learn about it within moments, we get pissed. And it's even worse if it is something that impacts our personal lives.

What is up with that?

Yes, I do, all I need to do is say something to one of my grandchildren or oldest great granddaughter to get it.

26 degrees when I started ice breaking procedures in my driveway this morning. It is now 24 degrees.

The roads (secondary and east west main streets such as 67th street), are a solid sheet of ice.

Not a grain of salt has been dropped upon them, and even on the main roads, it was used sparingly.

You can sure see there is a new mayor in town. . . And clearly he doesn't care about those of us that will have to get up at o dark thirty in the morning, and risk being involved in an accident because of the lethargic approach toward snow removal operations. . .

If these idiots are waiting until dark to apply it, it will do no frigging good!
