Well dang, looks like I might be the only one here who hasn't furthered their education, other than schooling to become a Realtor, so guess ya'll better concentrate all your crap on me as far as being uneducated since even Troll has me beat.  Thank goodness H H and PL won't be puttin' me down, can't include Troll 'cause he will if I disagree with him on something but ya can't have everything.  You are all to be commended for the sacrifices you made to get where you are and do what makes you happy but realize I am where I want to be also and am happy.  Now did use to spend a lot of time at the library when the kids were in school and usually checked out the book limit because I loved to read and would study up on things which interested me, boy did I leave that open for wise cracks, or learn about something I needed to know because I loved repairing things.

I would think being and studying to be a Realtor would not be easy. You have to know all about real estate, real estate laws and even taxes on houses.  I couldn't do it nor would I want to. Lol

There is a lot of math, which I hate, and book work which I also hate, but for some reason I got the bug to do it and dived in head first.  I learned more about different types of financing than I thought I ever wanted to know but if ya wanted to make a sale ya had to know which place would work for buyers if they hadn't already contacted someone or had no clue what to do.  I enjoyed it though so it was really easy for me and not like going to college.  I did find out I wanted no part of selling businesses buildings. I sold a couple of those and that was really a pain in my rear so I steered clear of commercial real estate.  Good money but not worth the stress and work that goes into something like that.

Yeah, late cousin was a realtor. He made a very good living at it, very good!

Anyone: In your opinion, what is the purpose of education? What are the ways a person can become educated? When is it complete?
Only after the last tree has been cut down. Only after the last river has been poisoned. Only after the last fish has been caught. Only then will you find that money cannot be eaten. - -Cree Indian Prophecy

Well,my opinion is the purpose of an education is to learn all that we can. Without an education, we would not be able to read, write, do math and even carry on the basic social norms that are expected. Education is never complete because one can always learn and learn something new all the time but this is just my opinion!
I would say besides the traditional school ways of learning, that one can learn by just reading subjects they are interested in.

1. To learn
2. Reading, watching and listening
3. Never

The purpose of an education is to learn many different kinds of things.  What you need to know to get along in life, which varies from country to country, or to help your fellow man, as with science or the medical field.  Learning, IMO is never complete because things change and there are always more areas to explore and learn about.  Depending on what it is you want to learn you can chose formal education, read books on a subject, observe, or just dive in and do it.  A lot depends on your age at the time, choice of what you want to do and if you need a degree to work in a particular area, like becoming a Dr./surgeon or scientist for instance.  I have always stuck to things which I can just dive in and do because I'm part an auditory and mostly a hands on learner.  I have a daughter though who has to read about something before she can do it and, in most cases, I can't do that.  I never really aspired to do anything that required formal schooling and a degree so there was no reason for me to take that route.

2. Visually, listening, doing. Practicing the application of the knowledge, skills, and tools you have obtained in order to use them correctly.

3. Learning is a life-long endeavor. I have said it a number of times in this very forum; the second you stop learning you have begun to die.
