You're talking to someone who fell asleep in the theater watching the movie Earthquake and, when I had to get up at 0'dark 30, had a clock radio that woke the whole neighborhood except for me and my ex and I don't have a hearing problem either I just sleep very sound.

Guess you'll have to stay up all night so you don't get zapped by a twister.  :big grin:

Does it only go off for severe alerts?  There's a big difference between a severe thunderstorm watch or warning and a tornado warning.  At least there is in my opinion.

I have mine set to trip only on warnings, not watches. For watches it gives you a visual alert which consists of a blue screen informing you of what the watch is for. (See the picture I posted about the "blizzard warning"earlier this year to see what that looks like).

For warnings you get the same screen, but also a multi-tone alert that will scare the hell out of you the first few times you hear it. It is loud too. We have our radio down stairs and when it goes off we can hear it upstairs inthe master bedroom.

My wife sleeps like the dead as well. (Makes me mad sometimes). And that radio wakes her up from downstairs every time it goes off.  :icon_twisted:

Hopefully that system will settle down and no alerts will be necessary tonight.

It seems to be simmering down.  Radar indicates that the leading edge of the system is crossing the Illinois-Indiana border northwest of Indianapolis with the trailing edge approaching Terre Haute from the west.  There aren't too many deep oranges on the radar now.  Most are light oranges or yellows so it appears to be dying down a bit with the cooler temperatures at night.

The leading edge is where all the strong winds are though.

QuoteIndianaWeatherOnline
As the line of storms moves into Indiana, remember that the strongest winds will be on the leading edge of the line. Winds of 60-70 mph are possible. After that the threat will quickly transition to heavy rain/flooding. A few isolated tornadoes are also possible.

Not necessarily. One little hook in one of those squall lines can lead to a twister.
